Morrisons Basil Pesto

Advantages: I impressed myself
Disadvantages: I would still rather have a pot noodle

I’m a sophisticated kinda chick you know. I love nothing better than to come home from a long hard (ahem) day at the pub, boil the kettle and pour the boiling hot water on a delicious, mouth watering, aromatic, POT NOODLE! So you can imagine my disgust when I open the cupboards and there is not one Pot Noodle in sight, I wouldn’t really mind so much if the freezer contained an equally satisfying boil in the bag curry or something, but no, selfish ...
...for me to satisfy my fussy taste buds and my grumbling ‘I NEED SOMETHING NOW’ stomach is a bag of pasta twists and some basil pesto. Whining, I take the pesto out of the cupboard and look at it with evil eyes. I look at the relatively simple jar, with it’s olive oil and basil picture. ‘Posh’ I think to myself. ...is quick, delicious and versatile. Morrisons Basil Pesto is excellent value for money and one of the best I have ever tried. Mix it in with bolied up pasta, mushrooms and sliced up ham for a quick and tasty meal or cover your roasted veggies in it for a more mediterranean taste. ...In Italy there is no real concensus on what should be the perfect recipe for pesto. The main ingredient is basil, and there will be cheese (either Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino) and pine pinenuts (or walnuts) garlic olive oil and salt and pepper. But if you asked Italians they would disagree about the proportions. In mass produced pesto sauces I’ve often seen parmesan cheese listed as an ingredient, and that doesn’t seem like a thing that Italians would get too worried about either. But… I really don’t think they’d like the pesto sauce I bought from Morrisons. It was in the chiller cabinet, so that’s usually a good thing in my book - fresh, as opposed to bottled sauce.
