Advantages fatalities, characters and special moves

Disadvantages needs more variety for long-term

I have to start by saying I've never written an opinion on, and barely even passed an opinion on Playstation stuff. I'm not very qualified as I don't have a Playstation of my own and therefore cannot assess long-term boredom... it's a treat to play it for me so I couldn't say whether it gets boring after continual use for a few days.

I suspect that I am referring to Mortal Kombat 3 but they're pretty much the same, just a few characters added and so on. Mortal Kombat is actually my favourite fighting game, along with Tekken, because the characters are really good. Being a girl and playing against a boy, a certain element of male-female competition was involved, so plenty of female characters was important.

Mortal Kombat has a myriad of characters, many involved in the two films based on the game, and the special moves are really quite good. They were, at one point, available from Playstation magazines. It is possible to learn them and this is the best way as random button-pressing will only get you some of the moves.

It's not the fastest game around but it's reasonable. There are secret characters related to the existing characters with similar moves, which I admit probably does get boring after you've found them all and completed all difficulties. Two-player is much more fun.

One of the most original things about the game is what happens at the end of a fight. The winner gets to choose what to do to the loser using a special move in a set amount of time, for example "animality", "friendship" and "fatality", the most interesting being "fatality". Each character has individual things to do here, all very interesting, and I think this is the best part of the game!

It's quite an old game now so you could probably get it in the ex-rentals or pre-owned sections quite cheaply. It is worth playing if you've got someone to play it with and if you can get hold of the moves. It could be a bit faster though.
