I decided to sell in November so that I could move in with my partner. An offer was made for the asking price and in early December 07, my solicitor wrote to them requesting the deeds of my house. I rang my very frustrated solicitor today for an update on my house deeds and she told me that they have received nothing yet. So I decided to ring ME - and give them a piece of my mind as they could be ruining my house sale for me and the people buying my house could withdraw at any time. Listen to to this....... more
This is an incredibly incompetent and money grabbibg company, if I ever saw one! I bought my house 2 years ago through Mortgage Express and it took 2 months for them to arrange my mortgage! I decided to sell in November so that I could move in with my partner. An offer was made for the asking price and in early December 07, my solicitor wrote to them requesting the deeds of my house. Just before Christmas I rang my solicitor to see if they had arrived and - nope they had not. On the 3rd January my solicitor rang me to inform me that my Mortgage company had sent my deeds to the wrong solicitor - one in Middlesex. I coincidentally live in Belfast, where we have a completely different conveyancing legal sysytem to England so only God knows how they ended up in Middlesex. I rang M.E and they told me that the name of the solicitor in Middlesex was on my account and that it must have been my fault for some reason. After 4 weeks of endless letters between my solicitor, Mortgage Express and the Solicitors in Middlesex, no-one could locate my house deeds I rang my very frustrated solicitor today for an update on my house deeds and she told me that they have received nothing yet. So I decided to ring ME - and give them a piece of my mind as they could be ruining my house sale for me and the people buying my house could withdraw at any time. Listen to to this....... I rang M.E today - 29th January 2008 and went through one of the very pleasant ladies in Customer Serviced for a shortcut, demanding that they get my deeds problem sorted pronto. After being on hold for 10 minutes after she contacted the deeds department she came back to to tell me that my deeds were in fact not lost or had not been sent to a solicitors in Middlesex, but they were "in their basement all along", and in fact there had been "a cross error of miscommunication!"- A month wasted all because of their total incompetence and bad communication. So they should be sending them out today to my solictor at last - 7 weeks after she initially requested them! What a joke! Please reconsider if you are thinking of using this Mortgage Company - they are unprofessional and dithering and their charges are ridiculously overpriced. They are drearily slow and there is certainly nothing "Express" about them...... I can only sing Hallelujah that I will no longer have to be dealing with such unprofessionals again.
I took out a mortgage with GMAC in May 2007 when I bought my current home. At the end of last year, I contacted them with a query about my account, when I was told that they had in fact sold my mortgage to Mortgage Express earlier in the year. You can imagine my suprise, as I had never been informed of this.
I needed to buy my ex-partner out of the property at the end of last year, and wanted to port my mortgage to a cheaper property to help me ... ...and after speaking with Mortgage Express, I was told that I could definitely port.
After arranging a transfer of equity into my sole name, and having found a buyer for my house and had a valuation done on a new property, Mortgage Express decided that they wouldn;t port anymore as they said I couldn't afford it!
This left me very out of pocket having paid numerous solicitor costs and in a very vulnerable position, as they had previously agreed to ...

Advantages: A freephone telephone number, good incentives such as free valuations Disadvantages: Poor customer service
I am a Mortgage Broker who offers mortgages from the Whole of the Market. I must admit that 2 years ago, Mortgage Express were highly competetive with their rates and offers, but more recently, I never seem to source them when it comes to finding my clients mortgages. Overall found their service slow and at times I found that they changed their lending criteria to suit themselves at times, meaning when I recommended a mortgage to a customer, I then ... ...obviously reflected badly on me.
They offer a freephone number which is rare these days, however, you have to be prepared to hold on the line for a good 35 minutes in order to speak to somebody. This somebody may not be very understandable either and may not have a clue what you are talking about! ...

Quick review of Mortgage Express Ltd
Dreadful, dreadful company. Been trying to redeem my mortgage for over a month but they keep delaying the process by not sending out the redemption statement. Also they took over 20 days to credit a lump sum off my accountant despite the fact they had recieved it by electronic transfer. Their delays will have cost me almost a grand by the time I move. My advice, avoid like the plague and put your business else where. ...

Oh the joys of Mortgage Express! Once my redemption penatly clause is expired i shall be changing immediately from Mortgage Express. Will be saving myself several thousand pounds after it expires! We encountered a few temporary financial difficulties and Mortgage Express had no sympathy whatsoever. High and regular fees for late payment, huge solicitors costs! (£1400) and a distinct lack of willingness to help us remedy the situation. Many other ... ...what these are would be warmly welcomed.. answers on a postcard... They were all very happy when things were going swimmingly but had no interest whatsoever when things went pear-shaped. Constant phone calls and letters. I had 6 letters saying exactly the same thing on one day. No doubt I am being charged £50 each for those. Would I use them again?.......... Am I Elvis? ...
