Halifax Mortgages

Advantages: good for 1st time buyers
Disadvantages: did not offer a good rate after fixed term ended, overcharge customers

Advantages: uncomplicated ,very informative with every step of the way with my mortage

Woolwich Open Plan Mortgages

Advantages: Payoff chunks of mortgage whenever you want. Offsetting saving accounts, interest calaculated daily
Disadvantages: Can be tempted to borrow to the max

The mortgage work by allowing you to set up a number of accounts and under Woolwich a number of saving pots, ie mini accounts that cannot be overdrawn, which can be offset agai9nst the mortgage. When we paid off a chunk of our mortgage the repayment element was taken off, without any notification to us. Very slow service

Advantages: Good rate (at the time)
Disadvantages: Slow service, poor communication, poor customer service, staff dont talk to each other.

...applied for a mortgage via Nationwide and I believe I got a good rate. However it was 15 weeks from application to approval. Here are the issues: 1) I have found the service very slow and kept receiving calls from the branch asking me how the mortgage was progressing, even though progress was waiting on their own head office! Can Nationwide staff not call their own head office to find out? Apparently not. 2) My Nationwide branch advisor went on holiday ...
...additional hold up. 5) Nationwide staff seemed to request information at the last minute, make sure you ask them if there's anything additional you need to send them for your application. e.g. more payslips or insurance details from your estate agent.
