Mother of them all
Advantages: Reliable, easy to fit/setup, huge expansion capability Disadvantages: may need to upgrade pc case to fit it in.
...required a motherboard update. The Epox EP-8KTA+ presented the solution.
The motherboard comes with a user manual, floppy ribbon, hard drive ribbon cable, usb cable and drivers and utility disk. The Epox board supports the AMD Athlon and Duron processors from 600 MHz to 1.3 GHz, However a new BIOS patch allows it to run up to 2.2 GHz.
The Board is of the ATX form factor and requires at least a midi tower to fit in, dimensions are 305mm (H) x 245mm ... ...and mouse sockets, 1 parallel printer port, sound and microphone lines, 2 com ports and 4 usb ports.
The memory is pc133/vc133 168 pin DIMM and the board can take 32 MB to 1.5 GB thanks to the 4 DIMM slots available
VIA AC97 onboard digital audio provides the sound, however I recommend that a separate sound card is connected as they usually provide better quality sound than the integrated audio. This motherboard has no onboard graphics therefore ...

Epox 4pda5+ review
Advantages: Nicely Built motherboard, at par with other leading brands. Disadvantages: Eats a lot power.
The 4PDA5+ Motherboard of Epox is a well built mobo. it has a wide ranged of features, from handy POST LED that will let the user know what the problem component is. It can support legacy hard drives as well as new sata hard drives. It also has a 8x AGP slot, where we can put 6600GT video cards to utilize this boards potential. It also has a unified system diagnostics manager, wherein the user can monitor fan speeds (3) temperature fro both motherboard ... ...the motherboard. The 4PDA5+ has also overclocking potentials..aside from sporting enough usb ports to host a number of usb products it already has a gigabit LAN port. Well enough of this goodies, i do have a warning when buying this mobo, your power supply should have a high capacity and should, and I must stress should provide clean power. the mobo sometimes becomes unstable when your power supply cannot address the power consumption needs of the ...

Best consumer home server in the day
Advantages: Everything about it, sound, RAID, 12 IDE built in, OC able, stable. Disadvantages: Very hard to find, no more than 3gb memory, older hardware, single-core cpu.
I've had 3 of these over the last 4-5 years (since they were first produced. I sold two of them to upgrade my home rigs to newer and slightly faster machines as the years went by. However, I've kept one and I'm so glad I did- it's been my best motherboard so far. Between the built-in chipset bonuses (the HPT374 for instance) and great components, it's never given me a hitch. They're really hard to find, if not impossible, but for a home server, they ... ...go dual-core with these. They're still a rocking system with winXP or some form of Linux, and with 12 possible IDE/hard drives (10 drives and 2 CD/DVD's) you can really make a nice office and business machine. They DO overclock, and they will accept the fastest socket-A chip you can still find (Bartons no problem). Somewhere out there someone has a bios that will allow 400fsb with some tinkering, but with memory limited to 333fsb, you won't see much ...
