Being pregnant for the third time has made me slightly reminiscent of my previous pregnancy and baby experiences, it gives me a lot of food for thought as I decide what products I will or will not be reusing or replacing for baby Lumpys arrival in July. Back in 2004 when I was expecting my first child I was naturally a bit apprehensive, I'd not had much contact with babies and was unsure of how I'd cope with it all, bathing scared me in particular and I was always worried that I wouldn't support my baby properly, perhaps even letting him fall into the water, deciding it would be better to prevent even the risk of this happening we purchased the Mothercare fabric bath support in the hopes that it would ease my first time mum worries.
Mothercare Fabric Bath Support- The Mothercare fabric bath support is made up of a terry towelling cover which slips over a basic sloped wire frame, the cover can be completely removed for washing and provides a level of "non-slip" security meaning the support should not move around much in the bath.
It is designed to fit within baby baths as well as regular full sized baths and is suitable up until 6 months of age, at which point baby should be sitting up and will be reluctant to lie back on the support happily. It allows mummy or daddy to bath baby with a little reassurance that baby will be properly supported. The towelling cover gives a good degree of support to the baby while still remaining comfortable.
It is important to remember that no baby or young child should be left unattended during bath times, whether you are using a support/seat or not.
Price & Availability- The fabric bath support is found in Mothercare stores and their online site for £7.99
Our Experience- We never really got on with this bath support and though we persevered for a few weeks we soon found ourselves looking for an alternative. It didn't fit properly in the baby bath as the base points were too wide, it also kept baby at too high a level to actually be in the water and we found we had to use an unnecessary amount of water for such a small child, now I'm not saying that I want baby submerged to it's chin but there needs to be a decent amount of water to keep him warm and have a good splash around, otherwise you may as well just give them a wash with a flannel.
Although the fabric design is meant to prove comfortable I found there was not enough give in the fabric and it didn't support Christopher very well, in fact he'd keep slipping down the slope of the support and we spent more time fighting to keep him in one place than enjoying bath times. To combat this slipping we tried using a rolled up towel at the base of the support but this only led to us having extra towels to dry everyday as well as the fabric cover which you couldn't really leave on the frame to dry as it took too long and would become damp and stagnant smelling. We also didn't find that the support was as non-slip as it promised to be and on the occasions where we used it in the big bath we would have to use it on top of a regular bath mat to prevent it moving around.
Minor plus points did include the fact that you could remove the cover and wash it, this would keep it fresh and clean, often babies poop in the bath so it's handy to be able to properly clean your baby bathing accessories. Of course it can be argued that a solid plastic seat is wipe clean and therefore equally easy to keep clean and hygienic. It's also not a bad price if you have success with the support, sadly we didn't have such success and the Mothercare bath support was quickly replaced, not to be used again.
Advantages: Better on your back Disadvantages: none
...my daughter would have saved my back a great deal of pain if I known this was about.
This can buy from mothercare and is only 7.99 which is well worth the money it's a simple and very practical item and would buy it again for my next child. ...

...A Mothercare luxury bath support.
It gives you that little reassurance required whilst loading the sponge or washing baby's feet.
Made up of a sturdy metal frame (that is non collapsible), and covered with a soft towelling material cover, which is non slip and can be removed for washing.
The reassurance that you get from this bath aid is huge.
I have used both in the baby bath and the house bath and found that it worked just as well in both, ... ...you bath baby.
What does baby think well he loves bath times and I do put some of this down to the comfort and help of the support
My little one is only 4 months and as with a lot of babies a natural in water (scorpion) and as such kicks his arms and legs about wildly.
You can purchase this item in store or on the net at a cost of £7.99 please remember there may be a delivery charge if purchasing off the net that's not to say you shouldn't you ...

Advantages: No hands bathing, can be used from birth Disadvantages: All that kicking about means baby moves further down the bath support
I bought this bath support because i dreaded holding my son in the water with one hand especially when he wriggles about whilest trying to shampoo his hair and wash him all over. I use the bath support in the big bath, which means there no messing about with buckets, or baby bath kits, or indeed cleaning the kitchen sink before sticking the baby in. One of the benefits of the support is that it supports the neck and head and looks to be very comfortable, ... ...the wee chap is too young to express his feelings in words. He never cries whilest on the support so i take that as a good sign and he never throws up his hands and feet as though in distress like babys do if they feel insecure.
I love having the freedom of being able to wash my son from top to toe without worrying about dropping him in the water or banging his head against the bath. I use the bath support as a guide on how much water to put in ...

Advantages: Very safe to bath baby with, leave parents and baby feeling secure Disadvantages: Gets grubby very quickly
I bought this product when I first had my baby for £8 from Mothercare. I bought the product because I had a cesarean and my partner was away on a detachment and i was nervous about managing both the baby and the baby bath on my own(they are heavy when full of water!!!) After a first few times of Ashton screaming has head off whilst i was tring to keep hold his slippery bodyy and wash him i decided action was needed and i invested in this product. ... ...which sits in the bath. You lay the baby on the frame, ensuring baby is safe and comfortable and that his neck and back are fully supported(essential in newborn babies and difficult to do in a baby bath when your nervous and trying to wash him) and you have your hands free to tackle washing hair, body and doing the all important splashing and rubber duck tasks!.
I love this product. Ashton seems to feel extremely secure and from the moment i put ...

Advantages: provides a secure feeling for baby whilst bathing Disadvantages: not much use out of it
...i paid £8 from mothercare for mine and truthfully only used it for a few weeks.I felt my son was held just as secure in my arms being bathed than sitting on this.
The size of the support truthfully is tiny..so as baby grows they end up hanging off the end plus they only have to move slightly and there is a chance that the baby slips to the side..
The good thing about this bath support is that it is made of terry towelling so when the time comes ... ...off the frame and pop it in the washing machine..
There are other bath supports and aids on the market for young babies that are maybe more expensive to buy but on the plus side they may be bigger and more suitable for you..
personally i would not bother buying one again..Thats my own opinion about this said product, ...
