Advantages Advantages Could safe a life, hides an ugly feature, very affordable

Disadvantages Disadvantages None - everyone should use these

First let me start with a shocking statistic, accidents are the most common cause of death in children aged one – five. Those curiosity ages when children where know no fear, everything is so exciting for them – especially anything “adult” which makes our job as parents all the more hard. There are so many dangers around the home it’s scary! One of the best ways for you to see the hazards and dangers in your own home is for you to be at baby level, go on your hands and knees and see what you can get to. There are the obvious hazards of stairs, where you store cleaning products, the oven, fires ... more

MOTHERCARE SOCKET COVERS In a world where more electrical goods are making our lives more comfortable and enjoyable, there are also more dangers for young children. Small changes to your homes can save accidents which could have devastating affects. Parents often remember to make small changes such as making sure children can't grab dangerous items such as irons, knives, cleaning products of high surfaces, but many people miss the problem at floor level such as electrical sockets. Covers are compulsory over sockets at a child's level in nurseries and to ensure similar safety at home, these ... more

    Advantages Advantages Piece of mind.

Disadvantages Disadvantages A slight pain having to take them out.

Is my daughter hallucinating? Can she see sweets in the electrical sockets in our house and must get them out by any means? No amount of saying 'no, dangerous' or baby signing works. So we have had to buy socket covers. My daughters safety is obviously my priority but I did wonder whether I was wasting money if she could get the covers off herself and also having the annoyance of having to remove a cover every time I wanted to plug an item in especially the iron that comes out most days. Mothercares own brand of socket covers comes in packs of 12 for £5.99 and due to the amount of low level ... more

Advantages Advantages Essential for safety in the home

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be hard to remove

As with most things I did a fair amount of research when I started baby-proofing our house. As always I decided to err on the side of caution so I picked up a set of these Mothercare socket covers for £3.99 for a pack of 12, to cover up all the unused sockets in our house, and I soon found there were more than I'd realised before. The socket covers are hexagonal chunks of white plastic with 3 pins on the end, so they will fit into standard UK sockets including extension lead sockets. The sockets do not stand out particularly to me, but they do to little ones because, well, doesn't everything ... more

    Advantages Advantages None

Disadvantages Disadvantages Risk of death, waste of money, pointless.

For many years the manufacturers of these socket covers have been scaring gullible parents and even professional carers into buying what is basically a worthless and even potentially dangerous product. You see them in church halls, play groups, homes, anywhere that children might be and people are lulled into a false sense of security, thinking that they are doing their best for their child's safety. It may come as a shock to many that they are defeating the safety features of one of the World's best designed power sockets. If you aren't sure, try to get your fingers into a live power socket ... more
