Top Arai helmet for style and protection!
Advantages: Protection, designs/style, vents, visor changing ease, removeable insides Disadvantages: Noise and Price (depending on budget for safety)!
...was bought a Yellow designed Arai Condor a couple of years ago (couldn't find yellow to review so chose blue/same helmet, different colour) for a Birthday pressy which cost approx £350 (Don't know how much exactly due to it being a pressy).
I thought straight away that the design (not just the colour for me) was smart, striking and up to date. Arai is one of the top manufacturers of helmets in my mind and a brand name too in the motorcycling world! ... ...especially the chin vent. The Arai helmets also have vented visors which are rare and are easily opened/closed to allow extra air flow through the top of the helmet. The air flow helps keep the head cool in warm weather, I find however, that the chin vent can create quite a strong draught on the lips even in warmer weather and I only tend to have it half open if open at all.
Although the vents are easy to use, simple and minimal in appearence, they ...

Flippin' Good Flip-Front
Advantages: Flip front convenience with great sun visor. Disadvantages: Can somethimes let a dribble of rain run down the inside of the visor
Having owned the Caberg J1 Plus for a few years, I went for the Justissimo to add the advantage of the integrated drop down visor.
Said visor may look a bit Tom Cruise in Top Gun or Luke Skywalker attacking the Death Star, but it works fantastically well. At the time I bought it I was making regular rides over The Second Severn Crossing into Wales - riding smack into a setting sun with no shade to be found. A situation to give the shaded visor a ... ...those of us who are speckies, flip front makes donning any lid a lot easier, and you look less like a robber when you talk to regular folk with the front flipped up.
I can't comment on the claims about it being quieter than the J1 as the faring on my bike causes a chunk of noise that a more regular bike would not have to contend with.
After a couple of years use, it's still in good nick, apart from two small padded stickers on the sides that fell ...

Best helmet I've ever had
Advantages: Quiet, brilliant fit, built-in sun visor Disadvantages: Cost, peeling visor coating, can be a bit sweaty in hot weather
Just wanted to debunk the first reviewer's opinion about fitting - helmets either fit you or they don't, and usually if one helmet by a manufacturer doesn't fit then none of them will. Everyone has different shaped heads - Shoeis never ever fit me, but it doesn't mean they're rubbish.
Anyway, I'm not a chinless pinhead, and last time I checked my ears and nose were still there, and this helmet fitted perfectly the moment I first put it on. I had ... ...comfortable - the only downside to fitting so snugly is that on a roasting hot day it can be a bit sweaty if you're stopped in traffic for long.
It's way quieter than my last helmet, and the sun visor is brilliant - better than wearing sunglasses because you can flip it back on the move when you go into tunnels or under trees.
Quality comes at a price - but if you shop around it's not too bad. Try buying at motorbike shows, I got mine for just ...

Shoei Shows Shoney Shome Shtyle.
Advantages: Well made, light, tough, good looking Disadvantages: Cold in winter with too many drafts, poor visor mechanism
...and because it is a Shoei many ther accessories are available, including tinted visors and the like.
Safety wise... it has kept me alive, but that hasn't been a particularly tough challenge as in the time I've had the hat I haven't crashed once! It does feel solidly made and carries the ACU gold approval sticker, and seems solid enough. The chin guard is larger than average too, but without looking so. --------------------

Shoei Raid II
Advantages: One of the best names, affordable and comfortable Disadvantages: none i'm aware of so far!
Being a newbie to the world of motorbikes i didn't have a clue what to look for in terms of what is a good 'lid' so i did a lot of asking around, looking in shops and a bit of online research. It was very tempting to buy the cheapest thing i could or even buy a second hand one until i was talked out of it. On the other hand i couldn't afford a top of the range helmet either but didn't want to compromise on safety either. Having been told that the ... ...something in my price range (£200) which is around the mid range price for helmets. A good strong, well made reliable product but without a few of the frills that more expensive models have, which to be honest i don't think i need, or at my level, would even notice the difference.
I chose a plain white one for 3 reasons,
1 i think they look cool and less tacky than some of the garish designs you get today, and will go with any colour leathers/bike!
