Bmw k1200rs as a daily commuter

Advantages: Brilliant fuel consumption, shaft drive, inexpensive to maintain if done by self, excellent build
Disadvantages: There are better looking 10year old plus bikes out there!

I passed my direct access in March 2010 and had done a lot of research to find out what would be the best commuter for my 65 mile round trip to work and back. If you are in the same position, you might want to consider the following points: Fuel consumpti ...

20,000 miles on a BMW K1200RS and a K1200GT

Advantages: Comfort, speed, economy, ABS
Disadvantages: Weight, handling

Let me qualify this report. I've had a lot of bikes and have used them for fun, commuting and touring. I've had most makes (Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Ducati, Triumphs and BMW's), and some pretty fast ones too (stage 2 tuned 150 bhp CBR1100XX Blackbird) ...

Advantages: Weather protection, comfort, handling, fuel range etc.
Disadvantages: Poor headlamp, people think you are too old for bikes when you buy a BMW

The BMW R1100RT is by far the BEST moorcycle for someone who likes touring at high (or low) speeds, and who likes to cover large distances at the same time. I have been riding for 37 years and have riden every type of machine there are. I feel the bMW is ...

24,000 miles with R1100RT

Advantages: Comfort, handling, its a Beemer
Disadvantages: Its a beemer, running cost , silly design faults, headlight.

I purchased my RT in Jan 1998 new for £11,000. Being 6ft 4in and 18 stone it really was the only option for a daily commute of 120 miles. For the first year I commuted daily but now only commute about two to three times a week. My overall impression is th ...
