I originally brought this phone because of its small size and weight and also because it contained a camera.
This is the first camera phone that I have ever owned. However, comparing the pictures with other camera phones the resolution and quality is poor.
The phone is small and easy to carry but very fragile so if dropped it is not as strong as the nokia and scratches easily. I have not yet been able to find a clear case for the c550 so have to use the old c350 case which does not fit correctly.
Sound quality is very poor on the phone. People I talk to find it very difficult to hear me. I end up shouting down the phone and then find it difficult to hear sometimes what the other person is saying.
To text alot of messages is difficult as the keys are so small and grouped together. However, the menu is simple and easy to use and you are able to store lots of messages, numbers and textes.
Advantages: Small, Camera, Easy to use WAP, JAVA Disadvantages: Camera screen is quite small
Unfortunatley, I recently had my motorola C550 stolen, and whilst looking on this website to see how other phones were rated - I thought I would have a look at the C550 and see how it did.
Now I have to say I loved my phone - it was easy to use, and I loved it being small and compact.
A couple of points on the other reviews, in the in-box you can change the set up so that it says who its from rather than the first line of the message. You can hide ... ...and finally, the text size did change on my screen once, but I managed to change it back (zoom out function - I can't tell you where this is as no longer have the phone.)
It was easy to download games onto this, I had 10 on there! Ringtones were also easy to download.
Whilst the picture screen wasn't fantastic - it is generally only used to take pictures for a laugh - which was good enough for me!
The only other downside for me was the calendar ...

Advantages: small, light, good sound, colour screen. Disadvantages: low quality pictures, small screen, fiddly buttons.
Tech stuff and info
Phone weight 92grams.
10cm (4") long & 4 1/4cm (1 3/4") wide & 2cm (3/4") deep.
It has a COLOUR SCREEN which is just under 2cm by 3cm (3/4" by 1 1/4").
Cant find any referance to talk time and standby time for batteries but has seemed ok but not great.
It has CHANGABLE covers and has an INTERNAL antenna (so no aerial sticking up).
It has an onboard CAMERA (lense in backside of phone ) with a zoom function. This can be used ... ...saved and used as either WALLPAPER (screen backgroung) or a SCREEN SAVER (quiet good fun having your own pictures as screen saver!) or added to your phone book along side a person tel number. You can also record a name to be played or VOICE DIALed for everybody in the phone book too. Has WAP ability so you can browse web pages and DOWNLOAD new ringtones, wallpaper and screen savers and is JAVA enabled so you can download java applications and gamed ...

Advantages: Colour screen, camera Disadvantages: poor picture quality
Ok I have to confess that this is my first picture/colour phone I have owned so I have nothing to compare it with. To start with I was fascinated by the phone (which was a freebie upgrade from T-mobile) having owned a 3310 for about the last 20 years! Ok the ups and downs as I see them. 1)camera, which means I can take dodgy and embarassing pictures wherever I am. Camera however isabsolutely pants inside and the screen is a touch on the small side ... ...very much!
2) Colour screen - no complaints here.
3)Polyphonic ring tone - as above
4) This is possibly the best thing about the phone - you can switch the menu round to what order suits you. I have to admit I immediately changed mine to ressemble the nokia menu as much as possible.
5) Games. Hungry fish and Solitaire. I have nothing more to say on the matter
Other than this I see it as a kind of run of the mill, mid price range phone. Probably ...

Advantages: camera, ok battery life, holds lots of pictures and phone nos, has lots of alarm options Disadvantages: poor sound quality, can't hold many texts, is difficult to text with if you text relatively quickly.
I bought this phone as a replacement for a lost nokia so it had a lot to live up to! I was pleased with the built in camera as previously I had an attachable one but I found that I could only vire the pictures with the top and bottom cut off so I could only see the middle strip of the photo. The only way to get round this is to display the photo as a background or a screen saver. I found the sound quality when making calls to not be so great, mainly ... ...sound quite muffled and quiet and it is also quiet at my end so you have to make sure you're not near anywhere loud when making calls. Texting isn't great. You can't find out who the message is from before you go into the message. It also can only hold 18 text messages but annoyingly flashes that the inbox is almost full when there is 16 which means you can't actually tell if you have a new text without going into the text message area and checking. ...

Advantages: Easy to use, nice camera with sharp pictures Disadvantages: No bluetooth or Video recording
...outstriped the rest of his MotorolaC550 just by using the predictive text.
The fact that the two top buttons could be pointed to anything you wanted it to be was amazing to me, not many of the phones that i have used have ever been able to do that.
I only wish that the leading companys in mobile manufacturing would make universal plugs to fit all there range of products.... IE Why can't they make a Charger that fits all Nokia brands or a Desktop CHarger that fits all Motorola.
Motorola has done this with this one phone, from a V300 to a E550
I can use all my bits and pieces that I collected for the V300 on the E550. No more extra expense at having to go out and buy a new case/desktop charger/facia ect ect.
I find that changing the facias to this things are extremley hard....
