Now, where else can you get all of those qualities at an affordable price?

I've always had a work provided mobile in the past, and have always had a succession of "bricks" with the expensive functions removed and absolutely no fun at all. For the first time, however, I've needed to buy my own phone, and was drawn immediately to the good looks of the Motorola L6.

I used my local Carphone Warehouse, and was pleased to find that the model is available on both pay as you go and contract with all of the major network providers so was able to pick the best one for me. I plumped for a £50 package with Orange on pay as you go, receiving £5 of airtime and a bluetooth headset (which I don't use much, but is great for Britney Spears impressions at parties!!).

The phone itself is silver and is extremely attractive, with dimensions of 110mm high and 49mm wide, but it's only around 11mm in depth, so fits very easily into any pocket, and at only around 80g in weight does not cause a bulge or any pulling, even when placed in a shirt pocket.

The set up and starter instructions in the box are very easy to understand and I was up and running very quickly. The phone is bluetooth compatible, together with WAP and USB, so can be used in conjunction with just about any modern gadgetry, all of which is explained very simply.

The display screen is very large and clear, at 128 x 160 pixels, making it very easy to see and understand. The menu icons can take up quite a lot of space, but do make function navigation very easy.

Whilst many keypads can be ugly or "clicky" when you press them, the L6 has a very soft touch, silent pad, with a welcome, and calming, blue backlight to enable very simple usage in any conditions. One word of warning, the function and menu keys are very easily customized, so this can cause confusion if done regularly or in error, and the function key on the side (which can operate the camera or the functions) is very easily pressed when reaching for the phone or fetching it out of your pocket.

The 4 x zoom VGA digital camera itself has still and video functions (the latter having a very clear audio facility, but it does drain the power somewhat) with 3 stills settings of high (640x480 pixels), medium (320x240) and MMS at 160x120. The quality of the shots is excellent, even at the lowest setting, and the 3Mb memory means that the phone can store hundreds of these pictures.

The phone has all of the expected functionality with a huge address book that is easily accessed and has MMS messaging as standard. It comes preloaded with many MP3 and polyphonic ringtones, 10 SMS message templates, and access to the Orange World WAP services. This connectivity can be quite slow, and is sometimes unresponsive to keypad clicks when browsing and therefore unwanted pages are viewed. It is also loaded with one game (many more are downloadable), but this game is "Rebels" and is very poor.

I find that the battery needs recharging every couple of days, but the phone comes with an audible alarm system, warning you of a low battery well in advance.

Overall, I highly recommend this phone, not just for it's good looks and sleekness, which is an immediate "grabber", but it has all of the required functions in abundance and is extremely easy to use.
