I have had this phone for a few months now. I am really happy with it, probably the best phone I've owned up to know in my opinion.
So I admit it, I bought this phone based upon its looks. I tend to put style over practicality. But overall I am very happy with it.
__________ Looks __________
Visually this phone is stunning. The phone is made out of a steal frame, with chemically hardened glass. The hinge is made of highly polished chrome. Although this can be a magnet for fingerprints, it will look great as long as you keep it clean. I often hear people say how swanky my phone looks.
At 11.9mm, it's 2mm thinner then it's predecessor, and slightly wider. Due to the fact that it is wider then the previous RAZR, it has quite large buttons. This makes text messaging very easy to do. It's great for me, especially since I have problems texting on phones with tiny keypads.
The rear of the phone has been rubberized. This
makes the phone easy to grip, but also gives it a stylish matt black finish on the back, contrasting to the glossy front. A word to the wise, do not get the rubberized back wet. I did this and the rubber pealed off, forcing me to buy a new one of the internet.
__________ Battery Life __________ This phone has two large, bright screens and due to its size, a very think battery. Due to this the phones battery life isn't great. You can get 3 days out of the battery but this is when you barely use it. When used heavily you can use it in about a day. This isn't a big problem for me because I can charge it everyday, but it might be a problem for somebody who needs a long battery life. Since having the phone, I have found myself with a flat battery more often then with previous phones.
__________ Software __________
The software on the phone is a huge upgrade from the software on the previous RAZR model. The previous software was often criticized for a number of reasons, but Motorola seem to have gotten it right this time. The system is easy to navigate. However, at times it can seem quite slow, especially when browsing media files such as pictures and videos.
__________ Reception __________
On Orange, I seem to get great reception all the time. Up to now, I have never gotten a 'service unavailable' message. Even in places where my previous phones, on the same network would not get reception, the RAZR seems to be fine.
__________ Features: __________
CrystalTalk™: __________
The Motorola RAZR2 V8 has a feature called CrystalTalk™. With CrystalTalk™ technology, your called with be clearly and hiss free. CrystalTalk™ can automatically adjust ambient sounds based upon the conditions you are in.
Camera: __________
If you want a decent camera phone, this is not the phone for you. The 2-megapixel camera is OK for random snaps here and there, but if you are looking for good quality pictures, look elsewhere.
Video quality is as expected. Just your average, low resolution 3GP video. It's as good as most phones, but don't expect to be shooting high quality video.
Music Player: ___________
I have not spent much time with the music player. I don't use my phone for listening to music, as that tends to be the job of my iPod.
While music is playing, you can close the clamshell. The external display will show the song's information, along with any album art. The external screen is a touch screen. On the bottom of the screen, you will see play/pause buttons and skip forward/backwards buttons. When pressed the phone gives feedback in the form of a little vibration. Volume can be controlled via the buttons on the side.
External Screen: _____________
As explained above, the phone's external screen can be used to control the music player. When the music player is not in use, the external screen displays the time and date.
When you receive a text message, you can use the phone's external screen to view it without opening the clamshell. You can do this via the navigation buttons on the side of the phone. This feature can also be used to view any missed calls.
Overall, I highly recommend this phone to anyone who wants a stylish phone, and isn't bothers about the disadvantages listed. The RAZR does everything I need it do (Phone calls, texting, web browsing) and it does it well.
