Advantages Sleek design, Faster internet browsing

Disadvantages Music buttons can be tricky

I got browsing on the net a few days ago, the objective being that I was on the lookout for a new phone. I ventured on to the Orange shop and found a suitable phone, the MotoRAZR Maxx V6. I liked it for the size and style. I got it on contract so I got the handset free. For £35 a moth I get 800 anytime minutes, 100texts and unlimited anytime calls to landline phones.

The box contained 1 MotoRAZR Maxx V6 handset, Battery, charger, Sim card, User manual, Software CD, Handsfree Kit, 3g USIM card and a USB cable.

The MotoRAZR Maxx V6 is an upgrade from the V3. It is a sleek, clamshell design. It is 104mm long, 53mm wide and has a depth of 15mm and weighs in at 100 grams, this is slightly heavier compared to some of the other phones I looked at. It has a 256k QVGA screen that is 120 x 160 display. I got it in what they call liquorice black and as far as I am aware this is the only color available at the moment, I don't know if they intend to expand on that. The back light behind the buttons is blue. The buttons are more or less the same as the Motorola Razr. It has a standby time of 350 hours and a talk time of 120 minutes.

On the handset you can customise a few simple settings such as add a screensaver, you can have a photo you have taken, a pre-installed image or an animated one. You can add a theme, which changes the look of your menus, adds a background and a screensaver. Change the appearance of your display like adjust the brightness or choose a phone skin. The phone comes with preset ringtones but you can later add your own.

The phonebook on the handset can hold up to 1000 entries, you are able to personalise these by setting a picture ID (a photo of the person calling, if you have one). You also have a speed dial function.

The phone supports SMS, MMS, EMS and e-mail (POP3, IMAP4 & SMTP). You use the phone the same as you would any other phone to send these types of message. For MMS and e-mail you may have to define a few settings first.

The phone has a 2 mega pixel camera with 8x digital zoom, flash and LED light, there is also the added bonus of an additional VGA camera for video conferencing. The camera lens is on the back of the phone when the phone is open. When accessing the camera feature you have the option of switching to video mode and back to camera mode, change the cameras angle from internal (facing you) or external (acing away from you). There is a light that stays on your camera until you take a picture, you can switch it off manually though if you prefer. You can set a timer to do a self portrait and you can decide where you want the phone to store the pictures I.E. phone memory or memory card.

You are also able to shoot a video. You can choose the length of the video then off you go, you can play them back with the video player or even send them via mms to your family and friends. The video player has a high resolution of 640 x 480 pixels with a frame rate of 15 frames per second. You also have the ability to make videos calls if the person you are calling has a 3g video phone.
