The Motorola Motofone F3 is a very basic mobile, allowing only calls and SMS texts only, so ideal for anyone who needs a simple phone, or giving your child their first phone.
The phone is very compact, measuring only 114mm x 47mm x 9mm with a good layout of keys. The phone has been designed to be as simple as possible, to the extent that you get voice prompts to help you navigate through the menu. (This voice prompt can be turned off)
The menu allows you to either write texts, read texts, change the ringing tone, set alarms and the date/time. There is also a phone book to allow you to store numbers.
The phone uses "electronic paper" instead of the usual LCD screen, so eveything is black and white. The screen is only shows 2 lines (not including the menu icons) and the text is 6 characters across. This means that it is very easy to read the screen in bright sun, but it does mean that if you receive a long text message, a lot of scrolling through the message is needed! One benefit of the screen is that is uses very little power so you can get 1 week on standby!
The drawbacks - to access some of the functionality of the phone, .e.g. turning on/off the voice prompts, turning on/off key tones, modifying language etc need to be done through specific key stokes, all in the format * * * [Numeric code] *, so you will need to have the manual with you to remember the 12 different functions!
All in all a simple phone. The reason I purchased this phone (SIM free) was to allow me to have a phone that I can keep in my cycling backback (leaving my good phone at home). I have put in a Vodafone SIM to allow good UK coverage, but have the option of using myoving my Virgin SIM if needed.
