ln 2005, I got my first 3G phone, a Motorola C975, which required charging every night, looked like a (silver) brick and was quite chunky. I had an allowance of 500 minutes any time any networks, 100 texts, and free internet browsing; e-mails cost 25p - 50p each depending on size.
I found the tariff suited me; I never exceeded my allowance, and although it didn't have Bluetooth, it was a simple matter to e-mail pictures to myself. The problem was the memory and BATTERY-LIFE. Charging the C975 was a problem from the beginning, and eventually it seemed to need almost continuous charge, so I was looking for a new phone.
~~ A PUMPKIN SAVES THE DAY ~~
I asked my network for a transfer code so I could keep my number while moving to a different deal. They wanted me to stay, and as an inducement, instead of the transfer code, they offered me
five months' free line rental as an advance credit;
a 12-month contract; and
a brand new Pumpkin-coloured RAZR V3x.
The advantages of this phone included Bluetooth, a much larger memory, 2.0 mega-pixel camera, (with choice of close-up or distance automatic focus, and up to 8x digital zoom). Projected standby and call times before requiring a recharge were also much better.
Offered a choice like that, would YOU refuse?
Please NOTE: I clicked on a non-pink product and was linked here, as the only difference appears to be the colour ~ unless the reliability is ALSO a difference . . . Mine was with 3-phone.
~~~ MOTOROLA RAZR V3x ~~~
The new phone was delivered by the postman in person the next day, and I could hardly wait to open the package. l transferred the Dual Mode UMTS SIM card into the new phone, put the battery in and slid the back on. The pumpkin coloured finish (like the deep pink illustrated above) felt smooth and sensuous to the touch.
The fold-over style meant that I could answer the phone by simply opening it ( No more fumbling to press the right button and losing the call! ). The cameras ( internal and external ) took excellent photographs, including up to 20 seconds of video recording. I read through the quick start instructions, and almost reluctantly put the phone on to charge. Ooooo! a lovely blue line of light started flashing, just at the edge where the lid meets the phone when it is closed.
When the phone was fully charged, an hour or two later, the light stopped flashing; when the phone was opened, it had printing across the top of the inner screen saying, "Charge Complete" (in case l hadn't realised it was ready for use).
Now I could start to use the phone properly. I personalized it to have the menu as I liked it and the fast-menu options (on the 'joy-stick' middle circle) to select the functions I use most. I set ring tones for contact groups, and re-assigned contact groups, as this is a "phone-specific" feature. Now I could browse the internet and check my usage and charges since last statement using the triangle key.
I sent a text message (SMS) to friends to let them know my new phone had arrived! I had to select "delivery report: yes" in order to know they had the message. Although the numbers are merely printed on a flat plate, there are translucent ridges separating them, and both the ridges and the numbers glow blue when you start to type. The video call button glows a darker blue, normal call button glows green, and cancel/reject call button glows red. The screen is a large 1½" x 2" and can display wallpaper and screensaver of one's choice. The font is clear; when entering a number to call it is large and easy to read; although text messages are slightly harder to read as the letters are half the height.
Reception has been excellent for phone calls, and I have never lost a call; I do not use video calling, as video calls are excluded from my free allowance, so I cannot comment on that feature. Messages have always been delivered, usually within seconds.
Bluetooth usually requires pairing: set Bluetooth to "find me" so the other device can locate you; then pair by both entering same four numbers. Now you can communicate, if the files are compatible. It took me a while to find it out, but I learnt that sending a file is by Manage: Copy: and under Object Exchange, select the already paired device, or [look for devices]; then select. SUCCESS!
~~ OTHER USEFUL FACTS ~~
My Daddy died on 30th June 2008, and I flew to USA on very short notice for the funeral; l managed to arrange 'Roaming' before l went, and, because it is dual-band, l almost always had a signal. The charger has a three-pin adapter for UK; take that off, turn the two pins outward, and plug into the normal USA domestic power supply ~ it didn't even seem to take any longer to charge than at home.This kept us in touch with family in UK while we were away; we received text messages for free and paid 25p per text sent. l spent £3.20 on calls and texts while away ~ a small price for peace of mind.
~~ NIGGLES AND FRUSTRATIONS ~~
To make an "anonymous" call the number must be in contacts and "private: yes" chosen.
To get a delivery report you must choose it EVERY time in Sending options.
Typing (and reading reply) an IM in MSN Messenger is teeny-tiny.
If you are typing a message or entering contact details, and a call comes in, you lose whatever you were typing and need start again.
Where 3G coverage isn't available, you cannot access account details.
Although I haven't set up voice control, I sometimes bump into the button and it says, "Say a command."
If I miss a call or text message, it emits a loud alert every five minutes until you deal with it.
If the battery is nearly finished it also emits intermittent bleeps.
~~~ RECOMMENDATION ~~~
I love this phone! The battery life is good: a full charge from empty only takes a couple of hours, and lasts for nearly a week if you don't use it much. It is comfortable in the hand and makes clear calls.
When my contract was due renewal, I kept the phone instead of upgrading, and currently enjoy a ⅔ reduction on my monthly tariff as a result.
...talk and advertising for the Motorola V3X so once it came out it had to live up to some heavy expectations. Luckily for Motorola it did. The V3X is a great phone so and hopefully my review will help you to understand that.
Looks:
This phone definitely has looks; it is probably the most stylish phone on the market. It is super sleek and not very tall either. The whole thing adds up the little screen on the front and the camera above it, the whole ... ...my eye about the look is that unlike most flip-phones it does not have one of those short stubby aerials sticking out of the top.
Feel / Ease of Use
This phone feels great in the hand to. It just about fits into the palm of my hand (the phone is quite wide) and it is not very heavy. It also fits very nicely into my pockets. The phone is quite easy to use. It has a simple 'icon' style menu which is very easy to use. The only downside I can think ...

...This new phone is the Motorola V3X. It is the newest addition to the Motorola range, and is the successor to the very popular Razr range (the thin Pink one, and the black one, and silver one).
This V3X is a flip phone. I am in a good position to review this new phone as I have owned a flip phone before. In fact, I have already written a review on the Motorola V525. A new text message/missed call, is also displayed here, which is very helpful, if you don't necessarily have time to read a text, but want to know if you have heard back from someone.

...when I heard the new Motorola V3x was being realeased I had to get it. I has a masterplan to get my hands on this phone, I was to phone up Vodaphone my current contract provider and tell them I wished to cancel my contract to switch to Three where they were offering the phone on some pretty good deals. Low and behold my plan worked and Vodaphone offered me the phone for free with an amazing price plan which I just couldn't resist, 2 days later and ... ...Looks: The phone is pretty similar to the original V3 range, major difference is the thickness of the phone which has been increased to house the new 2MP camera. The phone is made out of a very cheap plastic and as i found out very early on this is prone to scratching very easily. I now have a large scratch on the front of my phone where the paint has simply chipped away. The display on the front of the phone is ok to say the least only really use ...

...which you received a free Motorola V3X. The deal was fantastic and I'd always liked the look of Motorola's in the past but had heard bad things about them, but decided to bite the bullet and give them a fair crack of the whip.

...the latest incarnation of the Motorola V3 model. A phone that started out looking like technological pornography, and with all the useability of a cactus. Which is on fire. I had the original V3 briefly and hated it, but I am something of a hardcore Nokia fan, though I have been known to flirt with Samsung if it's late and I'm drunk.

Motorola have kept the basic design of the phone as close to the original as possible, which is clearly a good thing. Though it is a little fatter and chunkier than it's predecessors, owing to all the gadgetry that has been clamped to it. They have also kept the cool tron-like keypad, which I will admit, has such poser appeal about it, even I like it. Most surprisingly, the phone feels incredibly well made. Everything has a chunky, durable ...

Advantages: Music player, good screen, takes nice daylight photos Disadvantages: Design, overrated, battery life etc etc.
Having had Samsung phones for several years, I decided it was time for a change and received my first Nokia -the nokia N80- in February this year. It was an online deal from 3 on a price plan with only two phones to choose from - the MotorolaRazrV3x or the N80. I'd heard so much bad press about the V3x that I decided to give the N80 a try.
My first impression of the N80 was that it was a whole lot bulkier than I had expected. I'm a woman with average sized hands and found it somewhat uncomfortable to hold and slide open/shut. This was particualrly apparent when composing text messages.
I found that navigating takes practise.
The menu button, along with the "multimedia" and clear button, are cramped underneath the connect call/disconnect call buttons and are smaller than a cue-tip. My female average-sized fingers can barely ...

Advantages: small, light, easy to use and available in 3 different colours Disadvantages: not very much features, poor camera quality
have to charge it up mostly every 2-3 days. When i talk to people it runs down the battery even quicker so after about 10 calls it loses about one out of the three battery bars.
It's excellent value for money i got from the carphone warehouse for £50 on virgin mobile, and even came with £5 credit on already so it basically cost £45, a absolute bargain for a easy to use good quality phone.
It has very few features, it doesn't have bluetooth, mp3 ringtones or a car kit. It does have though a camera, video but you have to download the videos, and two games Hungry Fish and Ope It Out it also has Foto Fun Pack 2, where you make a face.
I would not recommend this to potential buyers, because there is better phones out there like the motorolaRAZRV3i and V3x, which both have lots more features.
