Advantages: Few beyond that of a basic phone Disadvantages: Quirky, not that well thought out
...bit lacklustre.
Motorola tried terribly hard to convince us all it was as cool as it comes, even enlisting former Manchester United star David Beckham to provide an apparent endorsement.
Remember the TV ad where he's seen playing the motorcycle game in the supermarket checkout queue? Yeah - like he pops down to Tesco to buy disposable nappies and Victoria's album!
I suppose if that's the sort of thing ... ...you'll probably be perfectly happy with this little number!
If custom facias are your thing, then prepare to be disappointed; the 'standard' covers only cover the back and front of the unit, the middle is still a rather naff silver plastic - you *can* get a full body replacement but you need special tools, and it probably does for your warranty.
I am, to say the least, a reluctant mobile phone user.
It's hard to be anything but indifferent about this phone.
On paper at least, it ticks all the boxes; small, lightweight, reasonable build quality, colour screen (why?) Voice, text, data, web, Java, polyphonic ring tones, name it, and it's probably featured, but somehow when it all comes together, it's just a bit lacklustre.

Remember the TV ad where he's seen playing the motorcycle game in the supermarket checkout queue? Yeah - like he pops down to Tesco to buy disposable nappies and Victoria's album!
I suppose if that's the sort of thing which impresses you (like it did, my teenage daughter), then you'll probably be perfectly happy with this little number!
The only reason I have a mobile is to provide on-call telephone support for my work.
They must have done a special deal with the network, because everyone in my office has exactly the same phone - and by some amazing quirk, just about everyone chooses exactly the same ring tones, so when one goes off in a meeting, you get twenty people all checking their mobies at once!
The other disadvantage is that they somehow got the 'good stuff' (WAP access, Java etc) disabled, and it only came with a charger, pathetic manual, and hands free kit.
No camera, no case, nuffink - so I can't review those features here.
Because I don't make many (any) voice calls, the charge lasts a respectable week long, for my purposes, a colour screen was a complete waste of time.
The phone format is the trendy 'flip top' design, big screen at the top, buttons at the bottom, cursor keys and a couple of programmable function keys in the upper half of the keyboard, numeric keypad at the lower half.
The only trouble with this is, if you want to text one-handed (walking down the street whilst carrying a briefcase, rather than driving a car, of course!) the open phone has a habit of tipping backwards out of your hand, and some keys are a little difficult to press with just your thumb.
The menuing structure is, to be polite, idiosyncratic. 'Call Forwarding' for example, is part of the 'Initial Setup' menu, I would have thought a 'call features' heading might have been rather more obvious!
Now, I might be barking right up the wrong tree, but after six months playing with the phone, I've still not managed to find a way of locking the keyboard, yet allowing it to take incoming calls. I might be missing something obvious, but that in itself is a worry. I suppose the only thing which really scores a plus point for me is the signal reception
I've previously used a number of NOKIA phones, and living in a bit of a radio 'blackspot' I found using them inside my house more than a little temperamental - not funny if you are called at 2am, sleep in the buff, and have to stand at the back door to get a signal! - not a pretty sight, although in this cold weather, unlikely to cause too many of the neighbours a great deal of alarm,
With the Motorola, the reception is sufficiently good for me to at least remain within the kitchen.
So - in summary - it may help preserve your dignity in somewhat unusual circumstances, and impress teenage girls (the phone I mean - steady!), but otherwise, promises a lot, but barely registers in the 'cool toy' stakes.
Price wise - what you pay will depend very much on the sort of deal you have with your telephone company. Checking Ebay shows a standard unlocked unit is about seventy quid, and you can probably get one 'free' with a suitably expensive contract with a network.
It's hard to imagine people talking fondly of these in five years time, it won't become a cultural icon like the Nokia 5110, it is, simply, a triumph of marketing over substance.
Advantages: Moto GP is back Disadvantages: Freezing after WAP
...I ended up getting my Motorola T720i, but nowadays when I look back - I’m glad I did.
So then - what sort of stuff can you expect to find on the T720i then? Well rather than just give you a big jumbled up paragraph - here have a bullet-point list:
* Functionality
* Wap Browser
* Polyphonic Ringtones
* Detachable Camera
* Flip-phone
* Great Games
* Organiser et al
* Other Stuff
So what Yours truly is going to do is break this review down ... ...and see how we feel at the end! Ok? good:
~Functionality~
It works don’t it! Well yeah it does, in the space of time I’ve had it I’ve had to have it sent away once as it wasn’t receiving any texts at all, but I think that was just a minor fault - the only other thing I’ve really experienced was it does have a tendency to freeze up after using the Wap Browser, but again that's a very rare thing.
To get around the menus, well at first I’ll warn ...

The Motorola T720i seemed to fulfil all that I could ask for in a phone. Or did it…
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬PRICE¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
I managed to get this phone with its camera, sim free on ebay for £130, though you can get it for £180 brand new in the shops. Is this a good price? I think so, as it is packed with all the gimmicks and features that will keep any user happy, young or old!
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬HERE COMES THE SCIENCE!¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
The t720i is able ... ...32 preset ones, though even Motorola have the cheek to ask you to pay for them on their site www.hellomoto.co.uk. Another problem is that the ring tones really are not that loud; if nestled away somewhere, there is really no chance of the phone being heard. This I found was a bit of a disappointment.
The t720i has Downloadable Java™ games (from Motorola website). Yet again, though, you have to pay: £1.50/min, and God knows how many minutes they ...

Advantages: Good mix of features Disadvantages: No camera on board, Screen poor quality, Build quality bad etc
The Motorola T720i officially reaches its 7th birthday this quarter. Having been released in Q4 2002, it is now virtually completely obsolete but can still be seen in some films depicting the early 2000s. At the time of release it was a successor to the T720 phone, virtually of the same specification. --- the BASICS --- The T720i is a clamshell phone. It has 2 screens - 1 outer black and white screen and 1 inner colour screen. The phone supports ... ...sending text messages in addition to more advanced but optional features such as MP3 player and a camera. --- USABILITY --- (Introduction) As the T720i is a clamshell phone there is a flipping mechanism. It rocks - literally. The spring helps to some degree but one gets a feeling that the screen and the keypad will detach any minute - not that it even happened in the years I have been using it. The phone is fast and up to speed - but we shouldn't ...

Advantages: Smart and Stylish!! Disadvantages: Quite tinny and flimsy!
I have had my Motorola T720i for about three months now. I wanted a phone that had a flip front and a camera so I was pleased when I was offered it free with my monthly tariff upgrade. I got mine from O2 website but I have seen them available for all types of prices, from £50 - £180, all over the place. Ebay seems to be a good place to look! When it arrived my pleasure became a delight. The small shiny little phone with colour screen and flip cover. ... ...on, the screen shows a motorola sign on a checkered background then a girl holding up a motorola. The menu screen has the network scrolled across the top. There is a clock face and also a digital clock and date is also shown. There is an option of four quick keys on the menu page. These options are controlled by a round key at the centre of your keypad. It has four arrows, rather like a dial seen on some nokias.You have the chance to change these ...

Advantages: Colour Screen, WAP, SMS/EMS, Flip, Relatively Cheap, Stylish, Java games, its a Motorola! Disadvantages: No intergrated digital camera, no MMS, ringtone volume too low
...tickled my fancy, enter the Motorola T720. This stylish clamshell flip phone, from the masters of the flip, is Motorola's first colour flip phone to be released. And being a teenager I wanted this phone because it is stylish, otherwise I'd hold onto my Nokia 3210. Here comes fun: Motorola T720i Review
Colour Screen:
Motorola made a smooth transition from monochrome to colour. Now that I've experience the wonders of a colour screen theres no going ... ...or great sharpness, unlike my Motorola e365 which does. There happens to be another issue, after a while if you close the flip too fast or slam the phone shut too hard you run the risk of screwing up the phone hardcore. This has happened to me, after not being too considerate to my Moto, the phone now shuts off when you slam the flip phone shut, whereas in the begginning this was not an issue. If you have read some of my other reviews, you will discover ...

Advantages: Slim, light, easy to use, great looking, fantastic features Disadvantages: Doesn't record videos & Low memory
In the past, i've only ever had a bad time with motorola phones, My T720i from years ago had to have 7 new flip sections, because they broke so easily. So I decided to go back to Nokia at that point. But one motorola phone always caught my eye. This one. Can you think of any phone that has been in production for over 2 years and is still one of the most popular and modern phones of the present day? I can only think on the Nokia 3310, it was terribly popular in its day.
But I see the V3 in a league of it's own, it truely was the main reason phones developed into what they are now. And 2 years if not more since it's conception, it still looks great. It is the Concorde of mobile phones.
You just have to look at it's features. It was possibly the first phone to have MP3 playback. MPEG4 video playback. It may also have been first to have ...

i brought this phone as a replacement for my motorolat720i phone and i was glad for the change! good quality colour screen, nice sounding ringtones, and the connectivity to other things like the computer or pda brilliant! i now send pictres cost free to my boyfriends pda (when he's around), i wouldn't be without this phone, its a sexy, sassy and not to mention great looking phone that changed the way i see sony ericsson, i'll buy from these again! the only thing i find quite odd about the phone is dowloading games, it does not have enough memory and this makes it awkward to get anywhere. and it does not tell you which games you can and can't download which is the same problem i had with the motorola. other than this and it being slow sometimes it is a great little phone and me and my boyfriend are thankful for it! like i've siad its ...

Advantages: stylish, fun, great features Disadvantages: poor camera quality
As you may have read from my previous opinion i am phone mad, and change them as regularly as my boxers! Previously i had a sharp gx1 and got bored so i went to my local phone shop (the link) and bought this. I wasn't to be disappointed.
OHHHHH BEHAVE YOU SEXY LITTLE MINX
The Motorolat720i truly is a sexy minx. It has a silver chrome finish and is in a clam shape design. The phones 'M' (Motorola logo) looks very stylish with a metal finish and it also doubles to be the speaker. There is a small stubby Ariel which is great as you haven?t got one of those ones that?s like a twig glued on to the end which stabs you in your pocket. There are two LCD screens a small one on the outside of the phone, which displays time/date/messages etc, which is very useful, as you do not have to open the phone.
On the whole the phone is quite small ...
