I have updated this review, and the update can be found at the end of the review. The review remains unchanged apart from this. I have, however changed the overall rating.
For Christmas (2006) I got the Pink Motorola Pebl. I've wanted a pink phone for a while (as its my favourite colour!) but I still wanted it to be a phone that I liked. I was looking around and I saw this one. I told my parents that was the phone I would like for Christmas. I didn't know if I was getting the phone or not so it was a pleasant surprise in Christmas morning when I opened the present and found it was the pink Motorola Pebl.
My previous phone was a Motorola (E550) and I really liked it but it was starting to get old and wasn't working properly. I had had two years use out of it and knew that Motorola were reliable.
~ The Phone ~
The phone is oval and resembles a pebble (hence the name pebl!) It feels smooth and sits comfortably in my hand. The phone is a metallic pink colour. Opening the phone is slightly different than your usual flip phone. You hold the phone in your hand and use your thumb to pull the top towards you, the lid then flips up. This feels strange at first but I soon got used to it.
There are magnets, which keep the phone shut. When I was making a phone call a couple of weeks ago my earring got caught on the magnet - I didn't know what was happening! But fortunately it only happens with that one pair :-)
The phone comes with a manual but I haven't looked at it much as the phone is fairly easy to use.
The phone came with a Vodaphone sim card but I put my old T-Mobile Sim card in. The reception coverage that I get with this phone is quite good.
~ Battery Life and Charging ~
When I first got the phone I thought the battery life was really poor. I played on the games quite a bit though, as they were still a novelty. Now that I use it for calls and texting only I have found it lasts at least four days (left on overnight), depending on how much I use it.
It takes a couple of hours to charge. When it is charging a little green light is on. I think this is useful as I can see if it still charging or not as I walk past. The green light goes off once it has finished charging.
~ Features ~
From the main screen you can access the menu, which has a selection of features.
.Multimedia.
This includes themes, which allows you to customise your phone.
This is also where you find the camera. The quality of the photos is reasonable. When you are on the screen for the camera it tells you how many photos you can take with the space you have free. I think this is a useful guide. The phone has Bluetooth so the photos can be transferred onto my computer. The camera also has a zoom. The photos are not such good quality if the zoom is used
Pictures and sounds can also be found under the multimedia part. There are about ten photos, which come with the phone.
There is also a video option which records moving images, which you can then play back. These are just a novelty really because the play back is quite slow, although it does play back a bit better than the video on the Motorola E550. The videos play back sound as well, this is good quality. The video setting also tells you how many videos you can record. I have recorded one short one already and it says I can record 7 more. So there's not much storage capacity.
.Office tools. Includes, interactive, calculator, voice records and alarm clock. All of these features are easy to use and are convenient. The interactive part includes horoscopes and games but you need to pay for these.
.Phonebook. This is just your usual phonebook really. You can store phone numbers, email addresses and add photos next to the entry. You can only store a photo next to the entry if you save the numbers to the phone, but I have all mine saved to my sim card.
.Recent calls. This just tells you your last dialled and received calls. It has saved 20 received calls so far and 9 dialled calls, which is all the incoming and outgoing calls I've had since I got the phone.
.Games and applications. There are three features in here. 'Fitness', this allows you to record your height and weight etc and gives you information about nutrition and exercise. I thought this was quite difficult to use at first, as there are no instructions on the phone, but its quite easy now I have used it a few times. I just used it for the novelty though rather than my personal fitness regime. 'Rebels' is a game involving space ships. I think it's ok as games go but it flattens the battery really quickly. 'Safe' - this is a feature which allows you store all you details e.g. passwords and bank numbers. You need to set up a password to access this feature. I don't like the thought of saving all of my details on my phone though, even if it is password protected.
.Web access. You can access the Internet from this phone but I haven't used it as I am happy to access the Internet from a computer.
.Settings.
Here you can personalise the phone. I have changed the colour of the features. You can also change the set up of the home screen. There are two short cuts on the home screen, which you can change. I have changed these to alarm clock and calculator as I use these frequently. This is also where you find ring styles. You can have a different tune for incoming calls and messages so you know what you are receiving. This phone has Bluetooth, this is easy to use and works well. I have transferred and received several photos and ring tunes without any problems.
.Messages. This is where the message inbox and outbox is. Messages are fairly easy to send. You can send photos and other images in your messages. There is a section called Quicknotes, where there is 10 pre saved notes ready for you to send in a text, such as What time shall we meet? You can add your own in here. I often add my own for messages I frequently send.
~ Screen and Keypad ~
The screen and keypad are smooth and dirty really easily. The keypad is flat with no actual buttons. This took a little while to used to but I really like it now (apart from the fact that it dirties quickly) There are two shortcut buttons on the keypad. One takes you straight to the web and the other to the messages. I use the message one all the time as I use my phone mainly for texting my friends and family.
~ Shortcuts ~
When the phone is open the button on the right side of the phone is for voice records and voice commands. The 2 buttons on the left change the ring style e.g. silent, vibrate or vibrate and ring.
I have dropped the phone once and you cannot tell, there are no scratches on it.
Thie phone is Quad band so can be used in many countries (including the Americas). I think this is great as I always take my phone on holiday. ~ Advantages ~
Cute phone
Easy to use
Good battery life
It's pink!
~ Disadvantages ~
Screen and keypad pick up fingerprints easily so needs constant cleaning
Not a lot of storage capacity
Game flattens battery really quickly
Not many games with the phone
~ Conclusion ~I think this phone is really good. The battery life is good and the keypad is easy to use, the buttons are just the right size and only need to be lightly pressed to work. I often keep my phone in my pocket on vibrate and ring and it fits really well and I can easily feel and hear it. I would recommend this phone.
You can get this phone in other colours too:
Orange Green Blue Black White Red
I don't know how much my parents paid for this phone. The price is round about £70 but it varies depending on where you buy it.
~UPDATE - November 2007~
I am having lots of problems with my phone at the moment so I'm hoping to get a new one for Christmas. As previously mentioned in my review the battery life was poor when I first got the phone. After not playing the games it lasted longer and it seemed to work ok for a few months. The battery life then started to be short again. I decided to buy a new battery and this seemed to help for another couple of months. The new battery cost me £10 from Metro Centre.
Over the last month or so my phone has become very unreliable. The battery appears fully charged one minute (3 bars) then I send a message and it goes straight down to 1 bar. Sometimes when it is on 2 bars and I try to make a phone call the phone just switches itself off. I can sometimes, however, turn it back on and use it for a while longer.
On Thursday when I coming home from university on the bus my parents phoned me to see where I was. I missed the call and tried to phone them back but my phone went off after about a 3 second conversation. I managed to turn it back on and send them a text. By the time I got home (10 minutes later) it was completely flat. I had just charged the phone the night before. My phone had been on nearly all day and I had sent about 5 texts.
I am currently charging my phone almost every day and I try to use it as little as possible to ensure I am not stuck without the use of my phone. I do not know what is causing this, I have dropped it a couple of times but I think it might have been a problem (that is just worsening) from the start.
The way I feel about my phone at the moment I would not recommend it, as although it works when the battery has power, the battery is just too unreliable. I hope I get a new phone from Christmas :)
Advantages: ALL STYLE!!! v cool!!! Disadvantages: NIGGLING DIFFICIENCIES
Motorola - There was a time when the name Motorola conjured up thoughts of er... erm... who? Then they got famous and created v stylish trendy phones that models showed off down catwalks with and every Bar Pretension in the West End of London had chic cool ringtones being played over the jukeboxes they were so coo.
Yes I use to hate Motorola phones for what they represented - the pointless affections of a waste of time lifestyle.
But that doesn't ... ...should I say?
Motorola have excelled themselves on this phone, but don't get confused by the advertising...... It is not a pebble - it doesn't really look like a pebble, it does look perfect for skimming across the flat, calm lakes of Geneva, and I found that it gets about 4 skips before sinking (my average is about 7 or 8 skips of a stone on water (but that's another review))
Anyway - my second Motorola phone I have not thrown across water like ...

Advantages: Stylish, beautiful looking phone with some great features Disadvantages: Not as up-to-date as some of the newer choices on the market
...but perfectly formed creature, the Motorola Pebl. I knew that it was to be 'the one' before I was aware of many of it's features; I was simply enticed by it's sleek, innovative appearance, available in an array or exciting and different colours such as festive red, a perfect sea blue and unique light green. It was a difficult decision as to which colour to choose. And, with it's soft touch, made it only even more charming, showing that a lot of thought ... ...that you can use this Motorola almost anywhere around the world, the Pebl U6 is a fresh face on the usually square and sometimes dull body in the land of mobile phones. It does have its faults but, in my opinion, those are very minor and something that you could easily cope with. Motorola have once again outdone themselves design wise and if, like me, this will be your first Motorola, you won't be disappointed! Definitely a brand that I would consider ...

Advantages: Looks Lovely Disadvantages: Battery not very good
I brought the PEBL about 1 year ago now and it was great at the start.,
looks very stylish and it is very easy to use, but i have found the battery life is not very good i am for ever putting it on charge. The key pad i do like i have found it very easy to use mind i have some fingers so if you have larger fingers it may be a problem, i also like the flip open action again very easy to use, Downloading is easy and the sound is good, also the picture ... ...good in low light, you can completly rearrange the appearence of the phone too change the the buttons so they do different things,
there are 3 small buttons on the side and you can alter what they do i have mine set as 1 for video cam 1 for camera and 1 for voice dialing but like i say you can change it to what ever you use the most so you can really make the phone unique. The phone also features :- Your main phone book which has a picture of a ...

Advantages: can record videos unlike the razr Disadvantages: keypad shows fingerprints so needs cleaning alot
I love this little phone i had the razr before and loved that but when this came out i found that you could record videos on it so i upgraded it immediately. The functionality is still the same as the razr so the transition was easy. Pressing the centre navigation key takes you to the main menu where you can access all the features of this phone.
The pebl is sleek and stylish and so tactile i love the feel, its oval shape fits nicely into the palm ... ...innovative sliding motion is very cool, but make sure you hold onto it i often slide it open and it flies out of my hand! it is however very robust and just bounces back!
This phones functions include:
- SMS messaging, sending messages on this phone is very easy there is an envelope symbol on the keypad pressing this takes you to your message centre where you can write a new message or check your inbox and outbox. When writing a new message there ...

I bought the Motorola U6 Pebl on a bit of a whim - I liked the colour, and the range of features looked impressive. Admittedly it is likely that 2-by-4 would have had more features than my last phone but that is somewhat beside the point.
I got my phone from Virgin - and due to a members offer managed to pick this phone up for the princely sum of £50 (not bad as the retail price is some £70 more than that). It is a good looking phone, with a reasonable ... ...a long established mobile brand with motorola as well. It cound do with a few more games to while away the moments, and a bit more memory - but other than that it a good solid buy - ESPECIALLY if you can pick it up on offer like I did. ...

Advantages: Mp3 Walkman, FM Radio, 4x Digital Zoom Camera, Good Battery Life, Bluetooth, Infrared Disadvantages: A bit chunky compared to some other phones!
I got this phone last Tuesday via an upgrade from T-Mobile. I had a MotorolaPEBL (U6) previously and wanted something just as compact and cute and the W300i seems to fit the bill.
I have a Robbie Williams Special Edition one that came preloaded with some MP3 tunes, graphics and various other extras including some Album art stickers and a Logo'd replacement back panel. Yes I am a fan but this wasn't the only selling point!
I first checked out the phone in a local mobile shop where they only stocked the white version (looked a bit naff to be honest) but I was able to have a quick play with it. It's a palm sized dinky little thing but the buttons inside are actually of a good size compared to other small phones. Some people may find the "half-moon" design of the keys a little hard to get used to but it is a nice design feature ...
