I'm not a very lucky person when it comes to mobile phones. Having gone through about 4 in the last two years and my Panasonic GD87 deciding to cut out on me, I decided it was tme to get a good, sturdy (unbreakable!) phone.
Looking on the Virgin Mobile website I noticed a few phones that look my fancy but ringing the order line I was told many were out of stock but the saleswoman said she could offer me a Motorola V220 at a cheaper price of £34.99 for my inconvenience. What a bargain!!!
Specification ========== Size: 86 x 44 x 24 mm Weight: 100g Internal Memory: 1.8 Mbytes Tri-band
V220 includes: ============ Integrated VGA digital camera with digital zoom - not one of the best camera's I have ever seen but the pictures are clear and I am comparing it to the Panasonic gd87 i used to have. Some of my pictures I have taken inside do have a blue tinge - i don't know the rason for this.
Colour screen - Basic feature of nearly every phone now - excellent colour photos and menus.
Polyphonic ringtones / MP3 ringtones - Brilliant quality polyphonics and mp3's can be played as message tones or call tones. There are around 30 ringtones on this phone - around 3 are mp3's but others can be downloaded via WAP or through a data cable. I bought a cable and a CD of pics and ringtones off ebay for £2.50, which includes the software you need to transfer data to and from your phone.
MOTOMIXER (Remixable MIDI ringer software) - This option allows you to remix tracks on your phone and add drums, piano and other various instruments to it. This is a good idea, although there is only one track that I know of that you can remix. You can then apply this as your ringtone, message tone or alarm.
Java™ games - The pre-loaded games on the V220 are Hungry Fish & OptItOut. Hungry Fish will keep you playing for hours as you try to keep a small fish alive by eating fish smaller than you. In OptItOut you have to make a picture by capturing parts of the screen with your red square avoiding the bouncy balls. In addition to these gams you can download games via WAP. You can get free(although your network provider will make a small charge for the amount of wap you use) java games from zedge.no and also free wallpapers, screensavers and ringtones.
SMS - Predictive text input (iTap) - Hard to use at first but easy to get into once you've done it once or twice. It is exactly the same principle as T9 on other mobiles.
MMS - Take pictures and send them to friends including sound. There is also a photo editor which allows you to mess around with your pics and even cut out peoples faces and paste them onto pre-loaded images. Very amusing.
Video Clips - Video clips can be downloaded and stored on this phone but not many will fit on as the phone will only hold 1.8 Megabytes of info.
Built-in handsfree speaker - makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. The v220 also includes voice dialling which means you can call friends and family by just saying their name!
Picture phone book - This is a good option on the phone as it allows you to put a picture with the phonebook entry. Although you need to save the entry on the phone and not the sim card to be able to do this.
So far I have found this phone has a good talktime of about 5 hours and the battery lasts for a lifetime. I normally have to charge it about every 5 days.
The only bad thing I have to say about this phone is its lack of space to hold mp3's and videos and that the screen is way too small for all the things you can do on there. Although the screen is easy to see in bright sunlight unlike other phones I have owned.
As you can see this phone is full of amazing features and will suit anybody whether it's used for business or pleasure. It is extremely easy to use and for only £34.99 you cant go wrong.
Thanks for reading! xxx

Thanks for the review - very clear. I had been offered one of these phones at an end of contract and not sure how good it was. Now I know! Thanks Welsgal (As my surname's Rees - guess where my da's from?)
