The motorola v220 is a reasoably priced phone, its not the top end of the market, but if you're after a simple phone its ideal.
Physical Size The phone itself is small and lightweight. This is helped by being a clam shell design. When closed it will easily fit into your hand or a pocket. The aerial on it however can get in the way. I have had to have my aerial replaced twice due to snapping in my pocket.
Features. The phone itself isn't full of features. It does however include: - a camera - polyphonic ringtones - java games - WAP - alarm clock and usual office functions
The phone came with two simple games on it, but more can be added. It also has a good selection of ringtones which as usual can be expanded. It has 1.8mb memory which can easily fit quite a few photos taken or extra ringtones or games. Using WAP I have found to be slow but not very expensive. I have downloaded a few ringtones via this method and have found it quite cheap. The camera itself is only 0.3 megapixels. The quality of pictures can be adjusted as can the brightness. It also has a 3x zoom. The quality of pictures is reasonable for displayng on the phone as a background or screensaver, but once copied to a computer via a cable, can look quite poor. Also included on the camera is some simple picture software for messing around with the pictures. The phone can send and receive picture messages, although i have struggled to get mine to send.
Keypad The keypad is easy to type on with quite a smooth surface. This makes typing text messages easy especially when aided with predicted text. However, if you are used to a nokia, some of the symbols and keys for spaces may take getting used to.
Screen The screen is of fairly large size (helped by clamshell design), allowing the text on it to be large and easy to read, with most text maessages having a 4 line display. The backlight is bright so idea for use at night. I have before used it as a torch in my room for a short period of time, altthough I would not recommend this as it uses the battery.
Battery and Reception Although affected by operator, the signal it picks up is quite good. The battery life can last 3 to 4 days depending on use, although after owning mine for about a year, battey life has deteriorated to about 2 days with little useage.
Durability. Apart from problems with the aerial breaking I have had no problems with damage on the phone and have collected few scratches. The screen is nicely protected by the clamshell design unless something small like sand gets in or it opens slightly (although this would be difficult) in your pocket.
Overall I highly recommend this phone for someone whos after a simple phone for calling and sending messages and is on a budget. It does not contain many features to keep you occupied for long.
