As Phil Mitchell would say, I love my motor'. Before this my list of exes included a Phillips Savvy and a Nokia 3330. Having the Savvy was like losing your virginity to a 21 stone momma. It was garish and chunky, not something you really wanted to show off. The Nokia was a little more slimmed down, but everyone had a Nokia back then; I wanted to be a little different.
The first thing that struck me about this phone was its size and weight, this is no Pat Butcher. It's just a little bigger than a credit card and weighs only 79 grams. It has a sort of keyhole design, only with a stubby aerial protruding from the top. The finish reminds me of the sort of brushed aluminium that was in vogue with stereo systems a couple of years back. The phone's design is quite different from other non-brick phones. It doesn't utilise the familiar 'clam-shell' approach, but instead has a rotating ear piece that has the screen as it's pivot. This opens to reveal a uniform keypad, that although well laid out, may be a little fiddly for those of us with fingers like Frank Bruno. As soon as you open it, a blue glow begins to eminate from the screen and keypad. This is a cool colour and much better than the familiar garish green. The characters on the screen are blue on a black background, and I know makes reading a little hard for some. But Stevie Wonder aside, most of us should be able to make out the screen just fine. The phone has two assignable 'softkeys' that act as shortcuts to your most used features.
Those features include a 500 name phonebook, sms, a wap browser, voice dial, 3 very basic games (paddleball, blackjack and mindblaster anyone?),calculator and datebook. The calculator comes in handy when adding up your scores on the games as there is no memory for high scores. This is one feature that even the most basic games should have to make you want to play them again and again. That said it is a phone after all, not a playstation, and performs this function well. The datebook can be used to set reminders of important things like Eastender's omnibus, and in the absence of any actual alarm clock, can be tweaked to make sure you get up in time for Kilroy (oh, not any more eh?).
Although many more phones have many more features (cameras, photo texting, colour screen) I've had my v70 for nigh on 18 months now and feel no need to upgrade. This phone is a style icon, it is unique in form and for that I don't mind depleted function. I'd just end up taking photos of useless old rubbish anyway. Oh, almost forgot, there is a dinky FM radio attachment that means you can, erm, listen to the radio whilst on the bus home. This is a little expensive though at £40.
I must include a mention of this phone's bugs: Sometimes when texting inadvertantly pressing more than one button will whisk you away to the main screen - v. annoying. And I've had more trouble with chargers than a matador (had to buy 3). The battery talktime doesn't last for ages, but is quite adequate.
Apart from that though, this stylish phone looks great and although you can't cook a microwave meal with it or use it as a time-machine like you can with most newer ones, I still love it.
P.S. in light of many questions the additional information needs to be added. This phone makes phone calls! Later...

Review of Motorola V70
Advantages: A small, nice looking phone with a good range of features - and how many mobile phones have chains of ducks walking across the screen? Disadvantages: sometimes slightly slow and, for Nokia familiars, a bit dificult to use.
