Motorstorm is the second game of the motorstorm series and a lot of people were hoping that this would make them forget about motorstorm 1 and its lack of modes. I think this game has but it has got some things that I preferred in motorstorm 1. In this review ill show everything i know and played of motorstorm PC.
Story
There is no story to this game, just a series of races and events. The only thing is that the amount of races, there must be about 150 races each 2 laps long which is long when your crashing and dodging vehicles.
Gameplay
Gameplay is Motorstorm PC is very well down, with the L2 and R2 buttons as your accelerate and decelerate really makes you feel you’re pressing down on a pedal. the x button for boost is a much improved system with the game taking in the fact you could be going through water (cool the engine down and so more boost how ever if in water you’re slower) if you near lava (hotter engine means boost
is used up quicker) and air (more boost) so this is a definite improvement. Crashes are done well, damage is included and the pace is brilliant, with the idea that you will never be guaranteed a win your always looking behind you whilst dodging trees rocks and more.
Vehicles
The various trucks, bikes, ATVs, rally cars and more really make for a both tactical and hectic race. With bikes being faster and easily crash into other vehicles. And monster trucks a lot bigger but slower but can take more bumps really make the game even more fun. The Vehicles detail is done well, crashes are done well with cars, you see suspension, engines nuts and bolts fly out of the truck, bike etc.
Graphics
Graphics in this game are brilliant. As I’ve said the vehicles are very well done but then there’s the lava trees water sun and most noticeable the background where you see mountain, water falls trees and rocks. But even from far away they look as good as the trees you see when racing. Lava water and the sun I must say are the best I’ve ever seen. lava making you actually feel kind of hot, water splashing and the sun changing shadows and warmth to the environment makes this game visually one of the best.
AI
The AI in this game is outstanding, with other vehicles trying to crush and block you makes you really get into the game, also vehicles will make mistakes and crash and also when there’s multiple choices of road where a bike is better for the left road, an AI biker might go to the right. Very good AI and a lot more fun than other 'dirt' racing games.
Online
I always and always will say this but racing games don’t need online really, because the AI in the game is just as good as the online racers. However lag is not noticeable even at high speed and the game loses none of its pretty graphics. There’s voice chat and quick match making. good if you prefer against an online live opponent.
Time trials
The time trials are done well, with all vehicles and tracks available for racing really makes a good mini game when you’re done. There’s ghost time trails. these are ghosts of the games creators for you to beat and world record laps to race against.
Tracks
There are four different types of map, water, earth, air and fire. as you can tell water has lots of water in it, earth has a lot of trees etc in it, air has lots of big jumps and fire has lava everywhere. These tracks can take multiple routs that could make or break your race. With bike doing jumps, trucks wrestling in the undergrowth and rally cars speeding past really makes it feel like a very large and interesting experience
Music
The Music in the game is good, not what i listen to but good, but the best thing is that you can play you own music from your music files on your ps3 hard drive. This makes driving a lot of fun instead of listening to the vehicles engines of an artist you don’t like also you can skip track (music tracks) with the left and right arrows.
Split screen
Motorstorm can have up to 4 people split screen, this is very fun with friends. When you got one person in a monster truck crushes his friends and bikes zooming past really make a good party game.
Trophies
Trophies in motorstorm PC are ridiculously hard, like win 250 races (that’s a lot trust me) beat 128 developer ghosts in time trails, win a race but 0.1 seconds and a whole load more that just get harder and harder so for all you trophy collectors this may be hard for you
DLC
DLC (downloadable content) has a good and bad situation, good is that you can get about 7 vehicles and their skins and the bad is that for a proper map pack with more races, events vehicles is £4.79 and theirs two, personally I think that’s a lot but depends on how much you get into motorstorm PC
Overall
Overall Motorstorm is very fun. a definite improvement but unlike motorstorm 1 it is not as chaotic which for me is a let down, but if you found the first one to chaotic then this is perfect for you.
