Advantages Healthy and produces a very taste drink
Disadvantages Bit inconvenient
I am not a huge fan of kitchen gadgets so when I received a Moulinex BKA14A Juicemaster Junior Juice Extractor as a gift I was not overly impressed.
I do sometimes enjoy a glass of fresh orange juice first thing in the morning, but this is usually straight out of one those cardboard cartons. I don't have time to mess about in a morning crushing twenty pieces of fresh fruit to get half a glass of fresh juice, or so I thought. One Sunday morning a few weeks ago I did finally get round to giving it a try and I must say I was quite impressed with the results.
The machine comes with a very good instruction book and it is very easy to set up.
Using the juicer is however very easy, you simply place a jug under the outlet spout and feed the produce through the chute at the top. The appliance is quite powerful with a 300 watt output so the whole thing takes less than a minute and the juice is collected in a clear, see through container.
The juice container has a 0.9L capacity (which is at least ten oranges so it's more than large enough). The fruit must be peeled first, stones removed and broken into bite size pieces and then, guided through the funnel with the pusher which is providedI did notice that the pulp which was left behind was still quite wet so I suspect that the machine is not particularly efficient, but it was a gift after all and beggars can't be choosers.
The juice was very nice and full of bits which gave it that extra taste, It is probably best served chilled but I drank my straight away. Very nice, but still a little pointless I couldn't help thinking to myself. This particular appliance is white in colour and a bit bulky to store or leave on the worktop. It has various speeds and an easy clean function. It is not too much hassle to clean if you at least rinse it under the tap straight away. It also comes with a special brush to clean the harder to reach parts. However, one of my concerns is with the pulp container, it does not look very well designed and it is difficult to clean, it is also made of very cheap, thin plastic which I fear will break easily.
Overall I think that the Moulinex Juice extractor is a lot of effort, it may be easy to use, but it still takes time to get it out of the cupboard, set it up, use, clean it and put it away for next time. It is not something that I will be using very often, I will probably be putting it away at the back of the cupboard until I have some company round who I want to impress, and in the meantime I will stick with my cardboard cartons.Thank you for reading.
