Advantages: easy to use and reliable Disadvantages: none
...I have been a keen gardener since I was 8 years old always helping in the garden. So when I left school I studied horticulture and went on to run my own business. Looking around for lawn mowers I found that the mountfield range was the most suitable.
Mountfield do a good petrol engine mower range so no electric cable to limit distance.
With petrol it is safer to use if the grass is damp.
I have used mountfield for the last 15 years and I would not change. I have tried others but they all seam to be at a different standard.
All my customers are happy with the lawns when I finished them as it always leaves a nice even cut.
The height is easy to adjust and the mower itself is easy to maintain.
I also find mountfield to be one of the most reliable makes on the market....

Advantages: Easy and reliable start (Honda engin version) Disadvantages: None for the price
...Having owned a generic DIY store mower for 3 years (Briggs and Stratton 4HP engine) it had started to become problematic and cease to self-propel. The options, spend a large amount having repairs and maintenance or replace with a sensibly priced alternative.
Ultimately went for the latter, and for less than £270 including delivery I had a new mower. This was via an online retailer.
Which Model and Why?
Mountfield 46cm (18") Self Propelled with Honda 4.5HP GCV135 OHC engine (a small premium over the ubiqitous Briggs and Stratton (B&S) engines on most budget models).
Chose the 46cm as a sensible weight mower for a medium sized garden. A larger cutting radius would have added £50-£80 to the price and really is not worth the fewer runs up and down unless you have a really big garden.
Self propelled was a must...

Advantages: No electric leads, & you don't have to push! Disadvantages: Noise.
...of this machine is pressed steel, which is then powder coated. This should keep the rust at bay for many years to come.
Like other mowers in this class, there is no electric start, you need to pull the recoil starter, which is easy enough.
As for safety, there is a bar that needs to be kept held at all times, if you release this then the machine stops.
Well, there you have it, buy this one or go for something cheaper, the choice is yours. All I would say is that I have used one of these for years, and I recommend them.
