Allergic reaction to Compeed?
Review of Compeed Cold Sore Patch by Melissanthe

Advantages: Discreet, protection
Disadvantages: Allergic reaction?

...Compeed I have used Compeed in the past without any side effects. As I suffer from cold sores in my eyes I am fairly paranoid whenever I have an outbreak and Compeed patches seem to offer some protection. However, this time I have had the most awful reaction to them. I applied one before bed last night and I woke up early this morning in pain all down that side of my face. When I looked in the mirror I could not believe what I was seeing. Not only ...
...painful. I obviously removed the Compeed patch immediately and took antihistimine. I phoned Compeed whose attitude was that I must have had an allergic reaction (despite never reacting to it before), but they were very keen to get the remainder of the pack back to test. I am now left with a swollen and painful face, cold sores that are worse than ever and wondering how long it will take to go down! ... Read review

Compeed
Review of Compeed Cold Sore Patch by tyrotrainer

Advantages: Kill cold-sore symptoms
Disadvantages: None

...lip 3 days ago........I used Compeed for the first time, about an hour after I noticed the usual signs. This particular spot on my lip (dead-centre) is prone to cold sores, and my usual pattern is that after 3 days I'd be at the weeping/sore stage.............5 days to scabbing over, and 3 or 4 more to clear up. Extremely impressed with Compeed!! Now on day 3 and the sore has almost totally dried up, receded, and is scab-less. Interestingly, I forgot ...
...day without one......the sore was a bit lumpy but dry first thing, but by cease-work was almost gone......I had been wearing patches continuously since the first application. ie 2 days. I have had no itching or soreness, and no bleeding or cracking of the skin.................. first time in 50 years of cold-sore misery. However, please read on......... I had an awful job with getting the Compeed's on........is their video a con??? (To make us ... Read review

Best worn overnight
Review of Compeed Cold Sore Patch by Bayley123

Advantages: Gave relief to itching straight away, prevents touching
Disadvantages: Fiddly to remove

I thought I would try this product after seeing the 'they are almost invisible' advert on telly, to see if these patches gave a better healing response time to my usual coldsore cream. To be fair, they looked quite impressive, and after my first botched attempt at placing it in the right place, yes, it stuck on well. Ok, it wasn't quite as 'invisible' to the naked eye as I was lead to believe, but the patch did seem to provide an instant relief ...
...I have a coldsore outbreak. For my first use, I only wore the patch for a few hours, before fiddling with it so much that it came off. I resorted to trying again, but this time wearing it overnight. This proved a much more viable option, as the patch didn't budge all night - in fact be careful when you're taking them off, they are VERY sticky! - and the coldsore had visibly 'calmed down' from the previous day. It had reduced in size, and was less ... Read review

Bonjela me up baby!
Review of Bonjela Gel by mynameisrui

Advantages: Fast relieft from Ulcers
Disadvantages: None

...someone told me to use Bonjela as it is very good. I reluctantly tried it and since then have not stopped using it. I have found that Bonjela actually helps get rid of the ulcer much quicker than any other method I have tried. If I use Bonjela then the ulcer will be gone in about 3 days which is much better than using salt (about 4 days) or leaving it to go away naturally (about a week). Bonjela is basically a simple gel which you are required to ...
...15g worth which is enough Bonjela to last you a long time. Other than mouth ulcers, Bonjela can also be used to heal cold sores, fight inflammation or fight infection in teeth. I picked up mine from the local pharmacy for a couple of quid and you can find them in most shops. One big advantage that it does have is that there are no instructions that you need to use it within a certain time of opening. The expiry date I have is 2011 so I don't have ... Read review

Good in Theory, fails a little in practice
Review of Compeed Cold Sore Patch by Uniqua1

Advantages: Covers the coldsore, so no accidental touching
Disadvantages: Uncomfortable, leaks, doesn't aid healing, prolongs the coldsore

I used these for a coldsore outbreak. I could apply lipstick over it and it did reassure me that I wouldn't touch it by accident. However, I found after an hour it started to leak. It appears to keep the area moist so it won't scab, but that fills the plaster and becomes uncomfortable, with it leaking out the side. I did change them regularly, but found that it actually prolonged the coldsore, rather than healed it, as it never scabbed over. Having ... Read review
