The title of this review was the suggestion of my very helpful dad!!!
Mr Brain's Faggots are just the most lovely tasting thing in the whole world. I am a massive fan and so is my dad and brother. Mum's not too keen on them but she always buys them for us because we nag her to.
We get ours from Iceland. I think you get 4 faggots for about £1.40 to £1.50. The box is bright yellow so it really stands out and is easy to find in the freezer aisle of Iceland. I think that most supermarkets will probbaly sell these faggots as well but we just get ours from Iceland as that's where mum does her freezer shopping.
The faggots are made from pork liver and I think they are pretty bad for anyone who's on a diet, because mum says they have a massive fat content and she wouldn't touch them with a bargpole. When we first used to buy these I wouldn't eat them because I thought they were made from pig's brains until my brother told me that Brains is the name of the people who make them, not the ingredient.
They come in a really lovely and tasty gravy which is quite salty but I like that. I add tons more salt tas well when mum serves them up with potato or chips or whatever we are having them with. We only get them about once or twice a month. They are not dear but it's just that mum says too many arent good for us and she says the same about potnoodles.
They are really easy to cook. We just put ours in the oven for about half an hour and while they are cooking we make the stuff we are going to eat with them. I like to make extra gravy (bisto) and pour this on because I never think theres enough gravy to go round for everyone. Mum makes 2 boxes for me my brother and dad and its a real treat.
Some of my friends like them but most of them think faggots are really gross but I think its just the name that puts them off because some of them say they are awful and they haven't even tried them. I think they have been around for a very long time becasuse I can remember eating these when I was really little as well and they still taste just as good now as they did then.
When we make them the dog likes them too. We used to have an old dog called Jenson who used to really love them so much that we used to make another box just for him. Jensons dead now though. I like to eat them on their own sometimes without anything else wit hthem, especially in the winter whe I need someting hot to warm me up when I get in late. I ring my mum and ask her if she'll pop some in the oven for me ready for when I get back. She sometimes does but not always.
Anyway, if you haven't tried these then I think you should. I dont think you should let the name put you off and don't worry they dont have any brains in them.
