Think of cakes and one of the first names to spring to mind is bound to be 'Mr Kipling'. It is surely the most established cake brand here in the UK and is one of the few brands that most people will have tried at some time or other. Personally, I associate Mr Kipling cakes with my childhood, and the cake which stands out the most for me is the good old Almond Slice, so it is this particular variety that I shall be reviewing today. A BIT OF BACKGROUND.... Is it me or does the 'Mr Kipling' brand seem to have been around forever..? It has certainly been around all my lifetime. But exactly when ... more

Doing the shopping without a shopping list ends up always with loads of treats. Yesterday for example we bought Mr. Kipling’s Almond slices (and 3 other treats I will review later). They were on offer in Tesco for only 1 pound so we gave it a go. The almond slices come in a cardboard box which has a huge logo on it and you can see the picture of the cake. Inside the cardboard bow there are 3 plastic trays. All of them are wrapped individually so you can open only one of them at a time. In one tray there are two almond slices. It is good that they are wrapped individually because the rest ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages They don't last long

When some-one mentions cakes the first thought to cross most peoples mind apart from cream is Mr Kipling. It seems there is nothing this dude can't do with some pastry some sponge and a few mediocre fillings. Most of the products in the Mr Kipling range are adequate at best, with perhaps the exception of Cherry Bakewells and Almond Slices. It is the latter which I shall be reviewing today along with a nice cup of coffee. The packet containing the six Almond Slices is a nice red colour with a picture of the slices on the front and sides. In the centre of the front of the packet is the familiar ... more

Advantages Advantages Split into two's so i don't eat too many.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None for me.

I was lucky enough not to actually pay for these, as my husband won them in a raffle at a club that he attends. They are however price marked at £1.09. This may be a promotional price, as i believe they cost a little more from previous purchases. *Packaging* The pack is dominated by pictures of the almond slices. They look moist, jammy and very very tasty. You also have the name Mr Kipling and 'exceedingly good cakes' largely writen across the front of the box.(Just how old is that saying)?? It informs us that the slices are twin packed for lunchboxes, and contains no artificial colours or ... more
