    4 Stars Fancy a 'French Fancie'...? Review with images 04/04/2007
    User recommends the product

    Advantages Advantages Moreish, no artificial flavours or colours

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Quite sweet

    I have always been very loyal to the Mr Kipling brand, mainly because I grew up with it. My mum regularly bought Mr Kipling cakes when I was a child and French Fancies were a firm favourite with me and my sister. You can understand why they appeal to children so much, with their bright colours and delicious fondant icing, and let's be honest, most kids have a sweet tooth! Nowadays, the sweet tooth I had as a child has become - how can I put it - a little less sweet, if you like, and although I still buy Mr Kipling cakes, French Fancies are not at the top of my list anymore. However, I still ... more

    Advantages Advantages taste lovely

    Disadvantages Disadvantages not enough in box and expensive

    We all know Mr Kipling, right? He makes exceedingly good cakes... In this case I have to agree a whole 100%. Mr Kiplings products are always of a high quality and these are just my favourite, ever since I was little. Packed in a red box with the Mr Kipling logo splashed accross it these cannot be missed amoungst the shelves of cakes in your local store! A picture of the cakes in question also appear but why look at a picture when you can look at the real thing through the clear plastic window in the box?! Inside all eight cakes are placed in a cardboard tray covered in film to keep them fresh ... more

    Advantages Advantages icing, sponge and filling!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages only eight in a box!

    Whilst shopping the other day i came across these devine French Fancies which my mom used to buy us for a treat, and what a treat they are! Mr Kipling exceedingly good french fancies are a box of eight little fondant iced sponge cakes which are cubed shaped with a round dollop of vanilla flovoured filling on the top! The packaging is in the usual Mr Kipling syle of a small cardboard brightly decorated box that looks highly tempting to the passing shopper. The front has a little window so you can see the actual cakes inside rather than just a picture which these also have - and guess what, they ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cake and cream and icing, luverly

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Erm, they are a bit sickly

    Oh Mr Kipling, how do I love thee, you make the most divine creations for my mouth only. I thank you for your Angel Slices, Bakewell Slices, and Strawberry Sundaes but most of all for your French Fancies. Sounding more like a delectable lady from a Parisian bordello, they are divine little cakes. These little delectables are definitely going to catch your eye on the shelf. Its the usual red and orange with a swirl of pink. They've also got pictures of the cakes on the front, alas again not life size, boo! A very nice pictures shows one cut in half to expose the sponge and cream, and noticing a ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cute, pefectly sized, soft and moorish

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Unequal amount of each flavour per box; they should all have different flavoured icing;

    I have always loved Mr Kipling French Fancies though I myself have always had a habit of calling them 'Fondant Fancies' but it's the same thing really since they are basically small square vanilla sponge cakes covered in a thick fondant icing in either brown, yellow or pink. There is something quite enduring and 'child-like' about French Fancies. Perhaps it's because they look so cute. They normally come as a box of 8, covered over in a cellophane wrapper. Each cake is a 3cm by 3cm square and 3.5 cm tall (including the little 'blob' top) and encased in a little paper muffin case. On the top of ... more
