So. What would I know about using a kitchen cleaner? Surely that sort of thing is woman's work? I hear you ask. (Well I would've heard you ask if it wasn't for the fact that Mrs P is looking over my shoulder reading this and I'm now suffering from a severe bout of tinnitus due to the almighty wallop inflicted simultaneously upon both lugs).
Of course I do my share of housework - I'm a new man (the old one was a dead loss), so I know as much as the next person about the art of cleaning a kitchen. Especially when the next person is some old dosser featured on Kim and Aggie's 'manky Git' programme.
Today I will mostly be discussing MR MUSCLE (Loves The Jobs You Hate ®) Orange Action All Purpose Cleaner Tough On Kitchen Grease..gasp... or Mr M for short. Why? Because that's what this category is for and if I reviewed something else, it'd be off-topic now, wouldn't it?
Anyway...
What we have is a 500ml spray bottle with a sort of hand-grip affair in clear plastic so you can see the bright orange, clear liquid therein. If that's not enough packaging description for you, then tough!
Obviously, as this is a household cleaner, there are various warnings concerning its use. Certain surfaces should be avoided for example, and you should avoid spraying it into your eyes (like you need to be told that). It doesn't say anything about not drinking it, but I'd play safe on that one and stick to something like Fanta if you want an orangey refreshment.
I'm not gonna tell you how great this stuff is for cleaning worktops, cooker hobs, tiled surfaces etc. I mean, it IS great at doing that, but then that's what it's made for. Suffice to say it does what it says on the tin...well, the reverse side of the label actually.
When all those crappy ads first appeared on TV telling us about the miracle cleaning powers of oranges, I was sceptical, to put it mildly. I mean, oranges are hardly a new invention are they? So how come it took until the 21st century to discover their miracle cleaning power? Mr MUSCLE states that it contains "pure orange oil". I'm gonna take a wild guess that it contains a lot more besides though, and things that I probably can't spell, never mind pronounce. Be that as it may, there's no denying it does the job, and does it well.
I find that a little goes a long way with this stuff too, so it works out quite economical. In fact, it you apply too much, it can be a bit of an effort to get rid of all the suds etc. When you spray it on a vertical surface like kitchen tiles, you can actually watch it wash away the grease, grime and gunge as it runs down the surface. Of course I'm only guessing about that, it's never happened in our immaculately spic-n-span abode!
But as I said, I'm not going to dwell on its grease-cutting abilities, but rather on the reason I'm writing this review.
We have a chain hanging in front of a window which groans under the accumulated weight of various crystal 'objet d'art'. They're all attached in different ways and it can become a bit of a tangle which makes it a nightmare to clean. Step up Mr M. I dangled the crystal-adorned chain over the kitchen sink, sprayed a tiny dash on the top of the chain, and a couple of squirts here and there, then let it run down. One quick massage 'twixt thumb and forefinger and a rinse under the tap later, and it was hung out to dry. The result? A kaleidescopic cornucopia of reflection, refraction and downright incandescent illumination. Shiny, even. I've never seen these crystals looking so sparkly...not even when they were new.
Was I impressed? - You betcha.
When I think of the time and effort we used to put into trying to wash or polish those pesky crystals; the resulting tangle and the curse-laden effort of disembroiling them; not to mention the unsatisfactory results, I could weep. But since I'm not a big girly, I don't - hey! just because I wear pink marigolds and a floral apron, it don't mean nuthin'...I still stand up to pee.
In conclusion, this stuff is BRILL! Granted, it's not as brill as a Belgian ale, but then what is? It's incredibly easy to use, extremely efficient, economical (a 500ml bottle is well under 2 quid), and it even smells nice! Why, you don't have to just clean kitchens with it either - it'll damn near clean anything. Oh, and it's anti-bacterial too. Great stuff.
Advantages: Great smell Disadvantages: Quite tough on hands.-(And a scandal that you have to clean at all!)

I get Mr Muscle in the 500ml size for £1.20. Asda's.
No doubt Tesco's is slightly dearer..
I'm quite happy with the bright yellow plastic container with the clear coloured spray nozzle, which my 9 yr old pretends is a gun...you have to twist this way and that to open and close.
Mind you,if you've got a headache (hangover cure?!)the colour is a wee bit dazzling..or maybe it's me age now..creeping up the early 40's..thingy.

Advantages: Great grease cutter, leaves surfaces sparkling Disadvantages: Fragrance is not really lemony, runs off vertical surfaces
...supermarket shelves. I plumped for Mr Muscle Lemon Kitchen cleaner – I had been impressed with their oven cleaner so maybe this would be good too.
It comes in a bright yellow 500ml spray bottle with finger shaped grips at the top. I found this easy to hold despite having small hands – a big plus point for me! The gun spray is easy to operate too, not being too stiff, and has a nozzle which can be turned on and off. The liquid sprays out very easily ... ...can use just a little or with more sprays a lot – much better than a large amount being dispensed with each squeeze. This is supposed to be a lemon cleaner but although there is a fragrance I’m not sure whether it can be described as lemon. The fragrance does not linger very long, which suits me just fine, but for those of you who like fragrances you may be disappointed. Cost wise this one was £1.85 from my local Co-op.
Well does it do the job? ...

...to find some of this Mr Muscle stuff.
It was a race against the clock. He would be home in 47 seconds and the smelly mess was even making the budgie feel sick. For the first 2 seconds all you'd have heard were 'swoosh'ing noises as my head fired left and right, reading what the bottle had to say. For all I knew it could have been Dads bald head spray.
I was lucky this time. Mr Muscle LEMON KITCHEN. "Yippee!! I might just be safe!!" It reckons it'll ... ...stains here again, but the Mr Muscle cleaned them up well. Sprays like this are sooo easy to use. If something's not clean, you can give it some more welly, or you can just leave it to settle for a while as you move on to another area. Coming back after as little as 30 seconds, the heavier stains will often be 'lifted' and you can just wipe em off. To be honest, I only mentioned the horrible looking cooker for effect here. The rest is true, but on ...

Hi!
My history with Mr Muscle began about 3 years ago. My husband and I were looking for bit cheaper house and big garden. By coincident his friend told us that his is moving out of his house-and what is bigger coincident the house was belong to my husband cousin. So we went to visit him and he told us that will be no problem and save him time to find someone's.
The house was needed bit of paint there and there so our property owner told us that ... ...and one of them was Mr Muscle.
I started in the kitchen. I got ball of warm water, cloths and Mr Muscle.
On the first look of eye, my white cupboard was not so dirty but when I squirt Mr Muscle on them, I could not believe my eyes. After about 5 second, I could see dark yellow mixture running down the cupboard. Wipe it of and reins it in the warm water -and the water start to change a colour to yellow. On the first look, the cupboard was not that ...

Advantages: kills what you cant see Disadvantages: nothing
I like to keep things nice and tidy where I live. Especially the kitchen . I have seen a lot of blokes who are really messy and can live in total filth but I like things to smell and look good. I think if you take pride in the little things then it'll be easy to take pride in the big things. So this leads me into my review of Dettol anti-bacterial surface cleaner.
It was mainly the advert on this product that made me think about buying it. I used to use MrMusclekitchencleaner but thinking of the germ factor, this Dettol product claims to kill germ such as: Salmonella, E.coli, campylobacter, rotavirus and listeria.
Now these germs are the main ones that can cause food poisoning and this, in serious cases can lead to death! So I decided for a change of brands and when doing my local shop in Morrison's I picked ...
Advantages: cleans well, leaves surfaces shiny and clean, smells nice, kills 99% of bacteria and germs Disadvantages: none
capfuls of it in a trigger action bottle filled with cold water as you are using less of the Dettol4in1 liquid therefore it will last you longer. You don't have to go out and buy a trigger spray bottle, an old MrMuscleKitchenCleaner or similar style bottle will do just fine if you rinse it out thoroughly before adding the Dettol and water to it and remember to label it. Once you have your diluted solution just spray your bath sink etc with it and leave it on for a few minutes before wiping and rinsing it off to have a shiny looking clean bathroom.
Dettol 4in1 can be used on a multitude of different surfaces in and around the home such as kitchen worktops, cookers, fridges, pet bowls, cat litter trays, window ledges, chopping boards, baby high chairs, walker pens etc. although you do need to make sure that you rinse the product off ...
Advantages: Cleans brilliantly Disadvantages: Smells of bleach
Well there I was searching the supermarket shelves for my usual kitchencleaner (MrMuscle) when 'shock horror' the slot where there usually are was empty! Ah well I thought I'll just have to try another - bet it won't be as good (see my MrMuscle review!).
Scanning the shelves I spied a Flash product called Flash Spray with Bleach. It comes in a 500ml white plastic bottle with a red spray head at the top and a handy gun design for you to hold and spray it. It has an orange label with Flash written in yellow on it. The background picture is of a sparkling clean kitchen and bathroom. I paid £1.59 for my bottle from the Co-Op but I suspect Asda or Tescos have it cheaper!
When I got home I opened up the replaceable flip cap over the nozzle and began cleaning my old worktops. Now as my worktops are rather old they take something ...
