I have often watched James Bond in all his various guises (Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Sean, Timothy Dalton, oh - have I mentioned Sean yet! LOL) and was always impressed at the way they got the dirty jobs done so quickly and efficiently.

Looking in my kitchen pantry for my next review victim, I set my sights on the Mr. Muscle Oven Cleaner. As soon as I saw it, I knew that I would not be able to resist the relationship that I saw between the guys on the silver screen and the guy in the silver can!

Like our intrepid hero (007), Mr. Muscle ("M" from here on!) often turns up when Joe Normal can't handle the jobs that really require a guy who is tough but smooth. As the outside of the can says, "M" loves the jobs you hate! That about sums up his willingness to get down to the nitty-gritty when necessary even when he doesn't come up smelling like a rose!

007 always managed to smooth-talk his way into every situation and completed his tasks with the accompanying spiel from Moneypenny, and true to form "M" also manages this due to SC Johnson's Makeapenny's special sales spiel known as slick advertisement.

The can is:
a. Bright with orange top
b. Just the right height so as not to attract too much attention on the shelf. (23.5cm high)
c. Just the right size and is not squat and fat or awkward to handle like some of "M"s competitors (300ml & 5cm round)
d. For those who like their secret agents a little taller, it also comes in a 500ml can.

The outside is covered with comments like:

1. Powerful cleaning action
2. Has glinting reflections off of the can in various areas
3. Powerful cleaning product
4. Name "Mr. Muscle" found no less than 4 times

Amazingly enough, I found that even 007's dangerous points were strikingly similar to those of "M"! Deep under Bond's calm-looking exterior lies a potentially dangerous enemy. Get on his bad side and you find yourself looking into the business end of his weapon. He can smile on the outside and wipe out the bad guys without losing a single moment of his charm.

In similar fashion, "M" comes with warnings that should be heeded if you are going to use him to handle difficult situations around your home.

1. The can warns that "M" can kill instantly if not treated with respect (solvent abuse).
2. "M" is not to be left on the job overnight.
3. "M" is to be used with quick efficiency (No less than 30 minutes and no more than 2 hours).
4. Removes the bad guys like: Grease, Caked-on Food, and the ever-present Spills.
5. Can explode into flames under the wrong conditions.
6. Wear suitable gear (such as eye/face protection and gloves which I assume are not out of a concern that you may leave fingerprints at the scene!)

Of course, Bond would not be able to get the job done without any of his gadgets courtesy of Q. With "M" these include:
1. A top that does not come off except under direct pressure with the use of at least two fingers (child-proof lid).
2. Concealed under the bright orange tuxedo top, you will find the weapon of choice - a small efficiently shaped button that is designed to point and shoot.
3. Lethal contents that are under pressure.
4. Contents are designed to wipe out the enemy without leaving a trace (translated to "M" means it does contain formaldehyde and a few other substances that can be a problem so handle with care - These substances are meant for the eradication of oven baddies.)

Directions for use:
Just as Q recommends that you not get too close during the use of Bond's weapons, so "M" recommends that you stay back at least 9-12 inches. Shake well and continuously move the weapon back and forth ensuring that you stay away from places like pilot lights or heating elements.

Does he get the job done?! Bond always gets his man, and I have never found that "M" misses the target if used properly. While the smell can be annoying, and unlike 007 who lets others clean up his mess, you will have to clean up after the mission has been completed. 007 never complains and "M" does not either and his presence on every cleaning mission will enable you to worry about doing other things which are far safer. Let "M" worry about getting himself in a pickle as that is what he's there for. After all, that is why you pay good money for his services (approx. £2-3 per can depending on size). This fortunately for us is much less than Bond's current price tag of £20+million per action adventure.

In conclusion, I have never seen Bond clean an oven, but I have seen "M" do a most admirable job. While we do have to do a little wiping up after the hard work is done, and while "M" does not come with a fancy car or jet-pack, I would say that in our family, his continual hard efforts are probably worthy of Best Supporting Actor! Think we'll keep him around for awhile - too bad the same wasn't said for Connery!

Hopefully, we will see you at the Oscars!!

Summary: A truly award-winning performance from a guy who doesn't say much!

I also write on Dooyoo under the same name.
