I would first of all like to take the time to dedicate this particular yoghurt review of mine to Greenierexieboy, as on a previous review his exact comment was: "The strawberry one? Meh. The peach one? Lovely." So this one is for you...
If I were asked what my favourite brand of yoghurt is, no two questions about it; I would say the delights of Muller in an instant. They do all sorts, from Muller Light to Crunch Corners, right down to the delicious Amoreyoghurts! I have enjoyed quite a few of these recently, and one of the more recent flavours is the Muller Amore Peach Yoghurt.
The yoghurt, like the rest, comes in a deep round tub. Mounted on the front of the deep luscious blue background you can see a juicy looking image of a whole peach and its slices.
As delicious as they look, there is no actual indication as to what the yoghurt itself looks like. However, when you pull back the lid, which is very easy to do with only small splutters, you will be faced with a very pale yellow shade of yoghurt. Through it you can see darker yellow, almost orange, pieces of fruit, a misshapen square shape. What's more is the delicious aroma of the yoghurt - a very refreshing and sweet scent from the peaches, most tempting.
After you are lured closer by this, there is nothing left to do but taste! Scooping some of the yoghurt into my mouth, I was delighted to find that the texture was just as splendid as the rest in the range - a thick and creamy yoghurt, with very juicy and soft fruit pieces. As for the taste, well that was just as fantastic! Yes, there was that element of sugary sweetness, but more so than anything you could detect a delicious peachy taste, smoothing themselves over your taste buds to be absorbed.
I'm afraid that the flavour was not the only thing to be absorbed; this particular yoghurt is not too kind nutrition wise. Each 150g pot of delight contains an uneasy 220 calories and 24g sugars. And we cannot forget about the shocking 11g of fat now, can we?! This is quite appauling, though if you look for that shiny silver lining, this yoghurt is a good source of calcium, so helps to keep our bones strong and healthy!
::WARNING:: contains milk. The tub does not state that there may be traces of nuts or seeds however I am aware that Muller also manufacture an Amore yoghurt containing nuts, so I'd suggest you just be a little careful with this one!
The whole consuming experience with a yoghurt is obviously very important, however I find I often pass judgement on how versatile a yoghurt can be. Would this one do so well? Again, I am incredibly sorry, but it was only a little successful. As I took a few spoonfuls out to taste it, I was then able to go on and add the rest to my lunch weetabix. However if I had poured it on straight away, there would have been far too much there - even though there is only 150g, and others can be used for this, I find it is too heavy. On a positive side of things though, this would go down quite nice with some fruit (could I suggest peaches?!). As it is quite a flat pot, you can easily pop it into a lunch. Also, it is good to serve as a dessert, or as an after-school snack to lethargic children! The pot appears to be made of a cardboard, however if you remove the blue paper part, you are left with a little white plastic tub. This can be reused, however there is no lid.
Things seem all well so far; it's delicious and has some versatility benefits. The price, on the other hand, is a little different. One single pot will cost around 68p (from Asda). This is quite a lot to pay for one yoghurt. However, they do have an offer where you can select any 4 for £2, which is a little better! Now do not worry if you intend on buying four but feel you cannot eat them straight away (not everybody is like me!). These have a fairly good expiry date, lasting up to a fortnight after purchase!
The big question now I feel needs answered is just how do these compare to others? I have had a lot of yoghurts over the past year (!) and have tried a few peach ones. It is unfortunately not as healthy nor is it as versatile as the Coop low fat peach yoghurt. However you do get an awful lot more in a single pot than you do in the Weight Watchers peach yoghurts. The Tesco Peach and Nectarine one too is much healthier but much more watery too. Muller Light Smooth Peach is more healthy, and there is about the same amount too in a single tub. I think this one would rank perhaps second or third, with Muller Light Smooth Peach topping them all.
Do not get me wrong though, not every yoghurt can come top - this is still a delicious yoghurt and although I would not recommend you eat it on a daily basis, it is still worth a try!
If I have my brands right...and I think I do...then in the Amore range there is also a honey comb flavour...now thats the one that I'd give 10/10 any day of the week...Lissy
