... I've been eating Muller yoghurts pretty much all my life. When I was younger I loved the Mississippi Mud Pie Corner, and when I'm on a health kick, I am addicted to the Raspberry and Cranberry Light option. Whenever I receive my email through from Muller informing me of a new product, I always rush out to buy as soon as I can. One of the latest editions I tried is the Muller Healthy Balance Corner: Tropical and Granola.
The Healthy ... ...the healthier options in the Muller Corner range, but more often than not I've found products to be deceiving. I decided to have a look and find out for myself. The nutritional information can be found on the Muller website (www.mullerdairy.co.uk), and also on the back of the sleeve. It turns out that each 135g pot contains 157 calories and 3g fat, as well as 17.7g sugars. Okay so the sugar levels might be a little high, and its not really fat free, ... more
If I had to choose two foods to live off of for the rest of my life, I could decide within a flash. The first would be soup. Simple. And the second? Well that's easy! Yoghurt, of course! The flavours are endless: chocolate, toffee, strawberry, vanilla, peach, rhubarb...they just go on and on. There are many different brands of yoghurt too, some appealing to children, others to dieters, and some to those who just want a delicious snack. There is one brand that appeals to everybody, and that brand is Muller.
The Healthy Balance Corners have been available for a while, but only recently have they introduced the 'and Granola' range. Before trying the tropical one, I had sampled the strawberry option, which I adored. There is also a raspberry one but I am struggling to find it. With such a great success from the strawberry and granola corner though, I was looking forward to this one incredibly.
These Healthy Balance options come in a pack of two, unlike the other Corners which are sold either separately or in a multi pack of six. The yoghurt, this time like the rest of the Corners, comes in a white split pot, albeit slightly smaller than usual. The cardboard sleeve around it is a bright red colour, with 'Healthy Balance' written in large white block lettering, with a yellow banner underneath it. The only way to tell the flavours apart is if you look closely at the image on the front. Each has a little pile of granola, and then an image of the fruit next to it. The chunk of pineapple on the front of this one does look quite juicy and indeed incredibly tempting.
When you take out a yoghurt pot from the cardboard sleeve, you will find the design on the shiny plastic lid to be very similar to that of the sleeve. Peeling back the lid, it comes clean off with ease, with only a few drops of yoghurt on the lid itself. As soon as the product is exposed, you are hit with the most delicious tangy scent. At first I thought this was coming from the smaller Corner, which contained the beige coloured granola and tropical fruit, but I later realised it was provide by the luscious yoghurt in the larger section.
I decided to give the yoghurt part a try first, as usual. I had expected a thick vanilla flavoured yoghurt but it turned out to be quite a thin, slightly bitter, natural yoghurt. This was not really a disappointment though. It was incredibly delicious and tasted very fresh! Delighted, I moved onto the smaller Corner. Taking a spoonful of the mix, I popped it into my mouth and chewed. The granola was quite dry and rather crunchy, and although it was quite tasteful, it was the tropical fruits that provided the excitement. They were quite chewy and had no particular flavour, just very refreshing and sweet. Having since then read the sleeve, I discovered that this tropical fruit mix is made up of banana, papaya and pineapple.
The name of this product would suggest that this was going to be one of the healthier options in the Muller Corner range, but more often than not I've found products to be deceiving. I decided to have a look and find out for myself. The nutritional information can be found on the Muller website (www.mullerdairy.co.uk), and also on the back of the sleeve. It turns out that each 135g pot contains 157 calories and 3g fat, as well as 17.7g sugars. Okay so the sugar levels might be a little high, and its not really fat free, but given the fact that it is incredibly delicious, I would say it is definitely worth it. It also contains 28% of your Recommended Daily Allowance of calcium, which too is quite good.
The Muller Light range by far is the most useful yoghurt range from Muller. Thankfully though this product comes close. Although I would not suggest you reuse the pot after use as it has quite sharp corners if snapped, it is an ideal size to fit snug into a lunch box to take out with you. Because of its quite basic flavour, it would also be good if you ate it with, say, weetabix or such like. It is definitely one to try with other similar foods!
I paid just £1 for this pack of two yoghurts, making them just 50p each. Although you can buy four pack of yoghurts from other brands from the same price, I do feel that these are more filling than many and definitely worth the money. I don't think they'll be put up in price once they stop becoming 'new', I actually feel they will be taken off market as there doesn't seem to be much hype about them – so try them while you can!
In comparison to other yoghurts, these definitely do quite well. They're one of the more delicious options from the Muller Corner range, and are quite a bit healthier too. There is a Healthy Balance Tropical option from Muller (ie without the granola) and that one is nowhere near as satisfying as this. This also works out cheaper than most, so is definitely worth the money. If you are looking for a healthy and delicious option from the Muller Corner range, give the Healthy Balance Tropical and Granola option a try, you won't be let down!
