When I was little and I enjoyed Muller corners on a daily basis, one of the only fruit ones that I liked was the strawberry. The thought of anything else such as peach, or cherry repulsed me and up until around three weeks ago, they still didn't appeal! My mum always tried to wein me away from the chocolate-laden yogurts, and onto the fruitier types, however I was reluctant and I always one the fight!
Around three weeks ago however, I noticed an offer in Asda which seemed to good to be true. Normally, Muller corners sell for 54p each, however the current offer means you can buy 10 corners for a measly £2. This works out at 20p per corner, which if i'm right in thinking, is amazing! The first time we took up Asda on the offer, I hurridly threw ten dessert and crunch corners into our trolley, before my mum could try and persuaed me otherwise. However the next time, I was feeling a little more flexible, and so into our trolley went various fruit corners. Among these was the attractive looking "
Peach and Apricot".
Corners can only really be distinguished by one thing, that being there foil lid. This particular one, has a very sunny, summery feel to it. Perhaps making up for the bad weather!? The main colour is a sunny yellow-ish/orange colour which fades into a pale lemon colour as it reaches the top of the lid. Muller is written in white writing, on a red background, next to the word fruit written in green. The never-changing CORNER is then written in large red writing, above the printed flavour, this time being PEACH AND APRICOT. The top right hand corner is home to a scrumptious looking picture. This time being some juicy looking peaches, extremely appealing.
Peeling the lid open, I was hit with a pleasant vanilla smell. I was fairly confused by the smell, as the pot didn't state the yogurt was vanilla flavour. The yogurt, as with most muller fruit corners was a bright white colour. It did look fairly watery, but nothing a little stir couldn't sort out. The smaller section contained a pale yellow looking syrup. I couldn't actually see any real fruit peices on first glance but a peering in a little further I did notice some little peices. The appearence of the yogurt wasn't really anything special, however it was enough to get my sweettooth a-craving!
After giving the bright yogurt a firm mix, the yogurt thickened up and became alot more appealing. Sitting on the spoon it looked glorious and so I spooned it straight into my mouth. As with the other fruit corners, the yogurt tasted slightly of vanilla. The first taste with this particular yogurt was an extremely sweet one, however finishing the mouthful off, a bitter taste emerged. I wasn't too keen on the bitterness however it wasn't unpleasant and I finished it off happily enough! Moving onto the fruit compot, I was a bit doubtful- it didn't look all too appealing. However, spooning some into my mouth I was met with a distinctive apricot taste. Resembling dried apricots, but with the sharp sweetness of peach to it too. The syrup was very sticky, but the juicy fruit peices added a splendid texture to the compot. After sampling each section seperately I tipped the remaining peach and apricot mixture into the yogurt, giving a mix the yogurt turned a pale yellow. By now, a delicious peachy smell was filling the room. The taste of the yogurt mixed with the compot resemled the apricot muller light. The sweetness of the fruit and the creaminess of the yogurt worked together magically creating a splendid combination!
After polishing off the dessert I was left feeling quite full up, and sadly quite bloated too! The taste had been enjoyable but it definitly hadn't been my favourite corner! I cant complain enough about the poor nutrition information printed on the front of the lids. Not only is it tiny black writing, impossible to read, but it also given per 100g, and this is pretty useless when this corner was 175g. Referring to the much appreciated Muller website, I am told that each Peach and Apricot fruit corner will set you back 191 calories and 6.8g of fat. To be honest I was pretty annoyed with this. I had expected it to be alot lower in fat, and nearer 150 in calories. If I am perfectly honest I much would have rathered a Peach or Apricot muller light, served with some peach segments which would have been alot healthier and would have only set me back about 130-140 calories!!
The peach and apricot corner is probably more suitable for the older generation, ranging from teenagers upwards. I dont think it would be to popular with young children as the images of fruit on the front aren't very appealing if u prefer chocolate or sugar based things! The peach and apricot corner could perhaps make a good addition to you'r toast in the morning, as the fruit and yogurt isn't too bad for first thing in the morning. It would also make a great afternoon snack when you feel like a sugar hit, or a perfect pudding, for a sweet treat. As with all Muller corners I wouldn't recommend for daily consumption, as although they do contain calcium, they do contain alot of not so good things too!!
