Mum has been a familiar and trusted name on the chemist shelves for many years. It seems a safe brand name, it sounds reliable. Let’s face it, Bristol-Myers Co. Ltd. had a pretty safe bet calling a deodorant Mum. This is a word, which brings a smile to most women’s faces as they think of their own mother or the name their own kids call them. Well, it does to me anyway, which is why it is a brand I often return to, when I am looking for something to buy. Admittedly, I can’t see hardened macho tattooed bikers buying this stuff – or indeed any blokes – but it sounds like a shrewd business decision to me and one that has presumably made the company a lot of money over the years.
So when I was looking for a deodorant to buy at my local chemists a couple of months ago, Mum was a name that I noticed straight away. It was also cheap, selling for around 60p, which is always an essential component in deciding whether I buy it. Shop around though, as it can cost up to £1.10! The final selling point, which got me hooked completely, was the fragrance – fresh peach. I love fruity smells and this one sounded gorgeous. The cap was a rather attractive shade of orange too. It had to be mine.
I must have had this bottle a good two or three months now and it’s only just running out, which is why I thought I’d better write about it. I use it twice daily most of the time, so you certainly get your money’s worth with a 50ml bottle.
The packaging offers 24-hour protection, but personally, I like to ensure I don’t smell sweaty at all, so I haven’t tried the full day’s test. However, I have been happy with its longevity and effectiveness and thankfully, I haven’t noticed any pongy whiffs emanating from my armpits.
This particular Mum is an anti-perspirant roll on. Whether you choose anti-perspirants or not and whether you prefer a roll on, spray or stick is an individual choice. I tend to avoid aerosols in case they bring on an asthma attack, but otherwise I chop and change. This Mum contains no alcohol, if you are allergic to that too.
The writing on the back warns you not to use it on sore or broken skin, but also boasts of its ‘gentle, non-sting formulation’. These two statements sound rather contradictory to me, but from my experience, the deodorant has never stung, although I am very careful if I have to apply it after shaving. It didn’t seem as gentle on shaved armpits as the Avon On Duty cream stick I use sometimes, but the Mum was certainly bearable.
I do find roll ons can be a bit sticky when you use them, so your armpits feel a bit wet for a few seconds after applying. This is the same, but it is only a minor inconvenience, not a big problem.
The peach fragrance is subtle, although recognisable. If you know what it is, you can smell it, but you’re not going to walk into a room and find everyone turns towards you sniffing loudly and asking ‘Peaches?!’ Personally, I would prefer something slightly stronger (such as the Original Source lemon deodorant, where the smell is quite obvious), but this certainly won’t have any conflicts with your perfume, the peach will happily blend into the background like the traditional wallflower at the office party. You can buy Mum deodorant in several different fragrances including the usual floral versions, sporty ones and unscented.
So to sum up…
ADVANTAGES
Nice smell, with other fragrances available Cheap Lasts well Attractive packaging Small, light, handbag-friendly sized bottle Reliable brand name Easily available Roller ball moves easily
DISADVANTAGES
Slightly sticky after applying Peach smell could be stronger Not quite as gentle on shaved armpits as Avon’s version
OVERALL
I will be buying this again, but will still try out other brands. It is a good product and very good value for money, but not perfect enough for me to pledge my exclusive loyalty to.
Advantages: It works, its cheap, smells nice Disadvantages: none I can think of
Mum Fresh Peach, Invisible Bodyguard, Anti-Perspirant Deodorant
This was the first deodorant I ever used; it was given to me by my mum of course, but not with this lovely fresh peach smell. I can’t remember what the actual fragrance was except that the bottle was pink and it was cheap and it did the job it was intended for. So it was Mum for me until I started earning my own money and could choose for myself.
I’ve tried other brands as well, Sure, ... ...all of them are very good indeed. I settled with Dove and forgot about my best friend Mum, completely ignoring her as I passed her by in the Supermarket, I left her on the shelf, poor old Mum!
Then a while ago I was shopping at Halfpriceorless and came across it once again. I was running low on my usual previously mentioned brand and wouldn’t be making the monthly pilgrimage to Inverness for another couple of weeks, so I decided to try it and see ...

...I have last seen a Mum roll on on the supermarket shelves that I was more than surprised to see it on offer in Sainsburys.
The Mum Roll On was on offer at such a good price ( 57p) that I could not resist buying one for old times sake.
I have been using a Sanex roll-on, that was on a special offer in Wilkinson's and I will readily admit that it is one of the best roll-on deodorants that I have ever used and it smells wonderful.
I chose the Mum ... ...or a washbasin. If this Mum Roll on slipped into the bath or sink you may end up with a chip out of the porcelain.
This is the normal run of the mill roll-on, the liquid is released via a roller ball situated at the top of the bottle.
This sensitive care Mum contains Jojoba, Calendula and Aloe Vera and promises to care for delicate skin without any sting.
Mum anti-antiperspirant contains no alcohol and it is designed to offer 24 hour protection.

Advantages: It does not sting! Disadvantages: No slime or stickiness involved.
My Mum is the best Mum in the world. She is always there when you need her, looks after you in times of trouble, and covers you in her sweet-smelling haze of love.
My own Mum is wonderful but I think that I have found another Mum who can do things for me that my own Mum can’t!
This Mum can keep me fresh and dry all day, or for 24 hours, as it says on the bottle, and she comes in a range of perfumes. Can your Mum do that?
In the past, I have tried ... ...Co-Op again, I discovered that Mum Roll-on Deodorant was on special offer at two for the price of one – 1.35 for both. A bargain! So I grabbed two bottles and rushed to the checkout.
I was feeling quite brave when buying another make of roll-on because in the past, I have had some trouble with roll-on deodorants. I roll them on, as directed, and then spend the next ten minutes rolling around the floor in agony, my arms held out like a windmill! ...

...to my faithful Mum.
Mum deodorant come in easy to hold 50ml plastic containers with a lid that screws off easily. So what I hear you say but for a disabled person this is essential. There are several different types, which you can recognise from the brightly coloured lids. My favourite is the bright blue lid of the Mum sport, which has an invigorating fresh smell.
Mum is easy to apply by rolling the large easy glide ball two or three times under ... ...knowledge that this will keep you odour free all day. As the sign on the container says 24 hour protection.
It is advisable not to use this on broken skin and you are always best not to apply straight away after shaving even though this is a gentle deodorant that is non-sting formulated.

...saw that they had a Mum Roll On Deodorant for just 58p. As I am trying hard to be economical at the moment due to our impending house move I decided to break with my normal routine and try it for a change, as it was so cheaply priced. Admit it – I’m daring aren’t I?
The variety that I chose is the Mum Fresh Pink Anti Perspirant Deodorant with 24-hour protection, and it smells lovely. It comes in an easy to hold plastic container with a bright pink ... ...Roll On, each of which is signified by a different coloured lid.
As the term roll on deodorant implies you just roll the liquid under your armpits and allow it to dry for a minute or two before putting on your clothes, so that you don’t get any white marks or sticky residue on your posh frock!
The roller ball in the top of the deodorant container is a decent size and moves freely so it’s dead easy to use and more importantly it works. You will ...

Advantages: Cheap, pleasant, very effective Disadvantages: None that I'm encountered so far
I bought this by accident a few months ago at my local Boots store. I picked it and dropped it into my basket assuming it was a "Mum" roll-on deodorant. Imagine my surprise when I got home and emptied my bag to find this completely different item to what I thought I'd purchased - instead of my usual roll-on, I'd bought a Boots 24 hour Protection Pastel Anti-Perspirant Deodorant 50ml roll-on. On checking the receipt I found it was only 69 pence, which seemed pretty cheap. What the heck, I thought, I may as well try it now that I've bought it, (I didn't fancy trudging back to the shops for 69 pence).
I tried it the very next morning, straight after my shower, before going to work. On opening the easy twist off lid, I had a sniff of the roller ball and was met with a pleasant scent - not too overpowering and almost sweet smelling. I ...
Advantages: Effective Disadvantages: But can have side effects
little boys, I began to whiff quite badly of a hot summer's evening (around 9 or 10, I guess, based on the current state of our Lewis' pits), my dear old grey haired mother's first solution was that unpleasant little product, Mumroll on deodorant, which had the unpleasant results of totally ineffective antiperspirant and leaving your adolescent armpit hair all gunked up with its slimy discharge.
Things got so bad and unpleasant for me that there was a lot of name calling and unpleasantness, until in the end, almost in despair we tried out Right Guard and found almost immediately that here was a product which worked and was extremely effective.
God, I remember to this day the difference that Right Guard made and the increase in self confidence which resulted. It wasn't foolproof by any means and there was still the odd day when ...
I have very sensitive skin and my underarms are no exception to this, I cant really use spray deodorant because of this, so I always am looking for a good roll on that wont sting or cause my skin to flake. I decided to try this deodorant under the advice of my mum as she has the same problem with her skin as well.
The first thing I would like to say about this deodorant is that it caused absolutely no reation to my skin, I sometimes get a rash from using products such as this one but I after usage my underarms were not all red and stingy as they normally are.
This roll on costs around £1.50 and can be bought in almost any shop that sells cosmetics or hygiene products.
When applying this roll on you can notice a very nice clean smell that comes from it, it seems to keep you dry all day though I havent tried it out in summer ...
