Review of The Old Grey Whistle Test - Vols. 1 To 3 DVD by smudgeybabes

Advantages: Cool, mellow, nice!
Disadvantages: None.

. . Title refers to the theme tune of the Old Grey Whistle Test of course! Presenter Bob Harris (AKA "Whispering Bob Harris", because of his quiet voice and "laid back" style). did a brilliant job of presenting a programme a lot of you won't have heard of. You may have seen mickey takes of it on shows like "The fast show" doing a parady called The Jazz Show (cool) and even Monty Python's Flying Circus did a sketch of it, The show brought onto the ...
...special effects to improve anything. The stage props were either curtains, or more often just the backs of the walls from other sets. Released by BBC Video, in conjunction with Warner Home Video, there are three DVDs in the series. They are available individually or as a set. Packaging is the same as all DVDs. You will see interviews with former performers, as well as getting comments from the old presenters. The show first went on the air in the ... Read review

Review of Elvis Presley - Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition) by rik13

Advantages: Great show and great dvd set with many features and very well presented.
Disadvantages: None at all

On the 14th January 1973, Elvis Presley gave a show at the Honolulu International Centre (in aid of the 'Kui Lee Cancer Fund', that would be beamed around the world, via satelite. It waws seen by nearly one and a half BILLION people. The show in which Elvis threw his 1000$ belt into the crowd. This 2 disc DVD set that gives accounts of both the the originally aired 'live' show, the rehearsal (shot a day before) and the edited version that aired ...
...i find it great that Elvis will live forever with this DVD set, it is just a shame that more of his performances couldn't be captured on film. Just to add the picture and sound quality on this DVD are actually excellent, especially considering how old it is i failed to notice any glitches and the sound is first class. The digital remasterers earned their fee with this one. A little advice, watch it on a large screen t.v. it's like having Elvis in ... Read review

A Great Sonic and Emotional Experience
Review of U2 - Elevation 2001 - Live In Boston DVD by fmml

Advantages: Great concert; great music.
Disadvantages: Slightly gimmicky extra features.

This is a great concert - Elevation was one of U2's most emotional, visceral tours, where the songs were out in the open, not hidden by any artifice or stage personas, and this DVD reflects something of that. The setlist is nicely structured, leading up to the emotional and sonic climax of the Bad-Streets transition. (Although what's with pronouncing it 'Shtreets', Bono?) Other gems include the relatively rare performance of In a Little While, dedicated ...
...Having the second DVD with alternative angles and so on is a bit gimmicky, to be honest. The biggest downside is that you can't go fullscreen with these angles - you have to watch it all within the interface they give you, which spoils the experience somewhat. It's quite cool to be able to hear the director's instructions to his cameramen and discover that the filming of In a Little While is a bit weird for a reason, though! All in all, a great ... Depeche Mode Excite Paris
Review of Depeche Mode - One Night In Paris - Exciter Tour 2001 (Wide Screen) by GabyMolly

Advantages: Brings back exciting memories of an excellent tour
Disadvantages: Not the same as actually being there

...of "Never Let Me Down" Depeche Mode are on top form in this concert, taken from their 2001 Exciter tour. I saw the band on this tour in London and this DVD brings back all the atmosphere but with better views. Dave Gahan struts around the stage like a latter-day Mick Jagger, whirling and posturing, whipping the crowd into an electro-frenzy. The set list is taken mostly from the Exciter album but also includes such rarely heard tracks as "Halo", "Waiting ...
...2001, this DVD proves that Depeche Mode are back on top form. They have survived the electro-synth-pop tag of the 1980s and evolved into the most exciting live rock band of the 21st Century (as they are currently proving on their Touring the Angel world tour). The second DVD includes interviews with the band and long-time collaborator Anton Corbijn, who directed a lot of the band's videos from the late 1980s and early 1990s, plus bonus track "Sisters ... Live 8 - Changing the World
Review of Live 8 (Various Artists) (Digipack And Booklet) by leebo87

Advantages: A day of History on DVD. Loads of really good artists live.
Disadvantages: No commentary and some of the extra's are a bit weak.

...names in music today performing live for your viewing pleasure. Its a bit like a compilation CD, but only you can see the artists performing live and the atmosphere from the crowds watching is electric and pulses through you as you watch. Its hard to explain in words how this show makes you feel. If you were there then you can reminisce of memories of the show you reember and the feeling you had when you were there. If (like me) you weren't there ...
...you can watch it all live now and still say that you were part of something big and helping the world. Back to the DVD. Its crammed full of performances on each disk. All in great quality (audio and visual) and are produced and captured very well. You turn off the lights, pull the curtains across, whack on the surround sound and you will feel like you are there in the crowd. The atmosphere is captured very well. The extras on the dvd are imho a ... Read review
