Advantages: cheap sturdy good resoulution Disadvantages: some problems with xp
bought this at local pc shop as my other Mustek brokedown. upon opening was pleasently suprised by the design better than most scanners at this end of the market. but sadly did have some driver conflicts with Windows xp in the end tho got it to work perfectly on wifes pc running Windows ME. If you are looking for a no frills scanner with an up to date design just for scanning photos etc.. at home then this is the one for you. Resoulution is better than you would expect for a scanner in this price bracket. You can adjust and play about with your scanned photos, pics etc with the bundled software. my rating 7/10 would have given it more if Mustek where a little easier with customer support on their website. ...
Advantages: high speed,good resolution,underexposed and overexpsed negatives scanns quite good Disadvantages: high noise,much artifact,scanner stops sometimes with no reason.
When I purchased mustekbe@rpaw 4800TaproII(updated version of be@rpaw 4800Tapro) I tought I'll get reliable scanner with satisfiactory
resalts.But it wasn't so.
Installation is anoying and to complicated for unexpirianced users.They could make simplier manu with simple full,minimum and custom
choice of installation so we don't need to confirm several times that you won't or not to install some aplication.
ok,after instalation you may wont to setup scanner settings.You can find shortcut in Start menu/all programs/be@rpaw 4800/scanner setings.
You will find that you can't manualy select aplication where you want your scann to go,and even it doesn't give you choise.If you
have installed Ulead PhotoExpress it is default and only you can select,exept if you turn on jpeg2000 mode than only choice is JP2 view,
on fortune it comes ...

For some reason I have never had much luck with scanners, I have had about 4 in my life time and each of the first 3 have died some nasty death, the worst being that the last one decided to start smoking before the glass cover shattered. Anyway, I luckily stumbled across my latest scanner a couple of years ago, being the MustekBe@rPaw 1200CU Plus scanner, and other than a couple of issues with it working on XP service pack 2; it has been a real star.
