When I purchased mustek be@rpaw 4800Ta proII(updated version of be@rpaw 4800Ta pro) I tought I'll get reliable scanner with satisfiactory
resalts.But it wasn't so.

Installation is anoying and to complicated for unexpirianced users. They could make simplier manu with simple full, minimum and custom
choice of installation so we don't need to confirm several times that you won't or not to install some aplication.
ok,after instalation you may wont to setup scanner settings. You can find shortcut in Start menu/all programs/be@rpaw 4800/scanner setings.
You will find that you can't manualy select aplication where you want your scann to go,and even it doesn't give you choise. If you
have installed Ulead PhotoExpress it is default and only you can select, exept if you turn on jpeg2000 mode than only choice is JP2 view,
on fortune it comes with installation cd.Other than that you have several aplications(e-photo,fax..)and bear paw panel that is software
eqvivalent to five buttons on scanner grid,so if you do not install Ulead photoexpress you'll find that it is usless couse there your scann
doesn't have where to go,grrrr.Another thing I tried is to find where can I start be@rpaw twain dialog box exept ofcorse from photoshop or
other iamge tool or aplication.Couldn't fined. One more thing, in scanner seting you can turn-off color match(don't know real purpose of this).
Good thing with with text scann is that you can chose word or worpad but no other.

Next stop. When I open from photoshop twain dialog box you have menu where you can select reflex, positive and negative mode,resolution,size...
You can selct level of brightness, hue and saturation(but you can't select different level separatly for green, red or blue channel)and in
third window you can find several option(sharpen,blur...)And didn't I mention, you can change setting only in reflex mode. Why???

It gives standard good resalts when you scann in reflex mode(photos,books,magazines...)High resolution, very fast.No complanes.
But,when you scann transparent materials than problems starts. You get images with too much noise and worse than that artifacts!!!Artifacts
manifests in fiew ways.Like lines or waves that you cant remove expet eliminate tham with clone tool(disaster)and color line (for example -
clean blue sky with several yelowish lines)GRRRRR.And this is not becouse of film or shots that I took couse I had same film scanned on HP
scanner to compare resalts. On the other hand It scanned some shots quite good with good color balnace with no artifacts and reasonably low
noise(noise is smaller in higher resoultion but still anoying).I have noticed tendecy to make images to greensh.Surprising but true it gives
very good resalts when scanning underexposed or overexposed shots(shots for that I tought are lost)but not nearly in good exposed(tendency
to overbright them) and you cant change setiings like I mentionit before).
It has predefined modes(Kodak,Fuji and Konica),simple inverted and visualized settings(no name films).Simple inverteg give best resats in
noise and artifacts but need editing in photoshop(contrast, levels and color)...

Worse thing is that head of scanner often stopes after scann or before an couldn't go back on start point.Only cure is to unplug an plug
again and head will lowly go back to start point.Other way is to give new task to sanner and maybe just maybe it will work(sometimes goes back
to start point an sometimes it start scanning from there like it is start point)again,GRRRR
I visited mustek suppor center and they haven't other answer exept only that its probably becouse of using usb1.1 .Is it so?Hm...
Well When you scann image at 100 dpi and 3x5 cm size it isnt some space size that usb1.1 can't handle. And sometimes it works quite good
with much, much larger files.Almost to forget about resolution you try to scann in 4800dpi don't get enything, only image similar those when
you lose signal on tv(lot of noise and beautifull color dots).I am aware that scanner optical resoultion is 2400dpi but in specification
sasy hardware is 2400x4800 and you have it in option. Also you can incrise size 6x(interpolation)

So,if you need scanner with TA adapter I certanly dont recomend these.I will change mine.
