i was after a "half-decent" camera to take over the cruddy £16.99 camera i had been using for a while, i didn't want to spend the best part of £500 on a 3.1 megapixel camera from another company (S***) so i browsed around a site i normally go to when i am shopping for parts to build people computers.
astonishingly, there it was, the Mustek DV3000, i thought the price was amazing - a 3.1megapixel digital video camera that can also take stills and record audio, plugs into the tv as well as USB on your computer, i had to have it, i can't disclose the site due to regs on ciao, but it only cost me just over £90 including delivery from the site. (if you want the site, you'd have to contact me.
after the camera arrived, i thought i had best read the manual before starting to use it, i decided to have a quick peek at it first, it is so easy to use, i haven't even touched the manual once yet. the software was easy to install on my computer, and the camera was easy to set up.
the 32MB MMC (multi media card) that came with it was easy to put in and it holds more than enough high resolution pictures for my needs.
i did however, find that when taking stills, the camera would seriously benefit from having a flash, as many of you may know it is often dark and gloomy during the day here in england, which makes picture taking harder for me with this camera. it does have controls on it for adapting to different light levels, but this feature is limited. i also thought the camera may be lacking the optical zoom that most others have.
the controls include: on/off switch, this is a small button on the top of the camera at the front that slides backward to turn the camera on, then you slide it backward again to turn it off. i thought this was a good feature, as it makes it harder for the camera to be accidentally turned on whilst in your pocket or a bag. next, the digital zoom buttons, easy to use, not confusing. the action button, this is used for the starting and stopping of a recording, and the taking of still pictures, also used as the "Ok" button in the menu. then you have the Rec/Play button for switching between capture and play modes. the up button, volume up, menu navigation and self timer. the mode button for selecting video or still mode. the play/pause button, playing or pausing the video. the stop button - stopping video. menu button, access to menu features, also exit from menu features. delete button, this deletes the selected video or picture, the button doubles up as the lcd display on/off controls. the down button, menu navigation, volume down and resolution selection. sound on/off button, also light/dark setting button.
the memory card is inserted next to the batteries in the compartment at the back of the camera, easy insertion and removal of MMCs.
overall, i thought that for around £90 this camera was outstanding value, it will last me for a long time, and i still have fun playing around with it now, but i do think it would have been an even better buy with a flash and optical zoom.
recommended, excellent buy

(+) Ultra-compact dimensions, fun automatic tools, good performance for the asking price (-) Cluttered menu layout, camera buttons are scarce, specs are almost identical to the Samsung ES15
