i was looking for a camera to take me from a film to a digital camera. i did a little research and found the specification i thought would match what i wanted which was a 5 mega pixel camera with a 3x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom. for those specifications the MDC 6500z was the one for me it was by far the cheapest at £120 with those specifications on the market at that time, so i got it.
however having had it for a while now i have changed my opinion.
- what the manufacturers and the sellers of the camera neglected to mention was the fact that the camera takes so long to do anything at all. the start up takes a good 5 to 6 seconds which might not sound much but if you have a child for example waiting 5 to 6 second may mean you miss some great picutres of your kids. once you have waitied for the camera to turn on you then face the problem of the extreamly slow picture taking. once you press the button you have to wait a good few seconds tills the picture is taken. this means that if you are taking pictures of moving objects by the time the picture is taken you may have missed what you were photographing.
- the durability of the camera and the reliability is unbelievably poor. the camera for no apprent reason stopped charging and eventually the LCD screen stopped working and was just black and then the camera turned on the lens came out and then the camera turned off with the len still out and the camera has n ot turned on since.
- musteks customer service was almost as poor as the reliability of the camera. apprarently mustek only really operate in the US and germany and maby one or two other eastern european countries so i ended up attempting to sort the camera out with a german man who did of course not talk english and in the end i gave up
- on the positive side the camera when it worked was very easy to use and the transferring of picture from the camera to my pc was very simple using a USB connection and then jut dragging and dropping the picture in to the files i wanted. in addition the price was the lowest on the market which is what originally atrracted me to it. however i now know why it was so cheap.
to sum up please please please do not be taken in by the price of any mustek products they are cheaper than other for a reason.
Nice Review as it shows the practicality of the Camera, I had a Mustek Digital Camera and I was very dissapointed and came across all the disadvantages you did! So I bought an olympus and never looked back!
