There is another Review on CIAO (pre-dates this) which sums up the functionality of this gadget, so I won't repeat the spec again.

However the key attraction for me was that for £100 or thereabouts I would be able to record video straight from the TV.

This was bought for me from dabs.com, who I have not bought from before but they seem to get mixed reviews.

The item was shipped quickly and delivered on the date specified. We did a quick check that it was not damaged in transit and then it went away for a couple of weeks until my birthday.

With great excitement I opened the box on my birthday and found the actual media player, which is about the size of a hard disk mp3 player, plus a carry case, headphones and several interconnects for PC and TV.

Suspiciously it was already fully charged, so I rushed downstairs and plugged it into the TV to record something. It was extremelly intuitive to use, I didn't need the manual. The TV had sky coming through it at the time and I decided to record a music video. This was done, the picture quality was excellent and it saved to memory easily. However, the sound was terribly distorted. Just to check, I listened through the headphones and it was still bad.

I came to the conclusion this was a Return that dabs had sent me. It went back, they collected promptly, but they just refunded and didnt sent another unit. I will not buy from them again, even though the price was keen, some internet dealers were quoting £170 or more.

I have since read several Reviews and the concensus is that you need to buy a 1Gb SD memory card to store anything worthwhile, which will cost you maybe £60 but memory prices are falling. Even so some of my home movies are several Gb so this product is going to be quite limited, even though it compresses them.

I was however impressed with the simplicity and picture quality and I will buy one from a 'bricks and mortar' retailer, when I see it on the high street.
