It occurs again and again that one would send pictures or photos gladly by Mail to dear joy, or she on the own web page of the world to show would like. If one is not proud owner of a digital camera, or which did not make pictures to be able to usually further process remains only the alternative her for in scanning around her then at the PC. Also beside my PC scanner is to be found. Decided I for the Mustek 1200 USB pluses. The scanner is gotten in different electrical markets too and the ex-factory price is appropriate at present for 59 € and 75 €³.
The scope of supply:

Beside the scanner
is still another USB cable, operating instructions in the supply extent of the Mustek, which are to be found driver CD and CD on that the program photo express. In addition that CD with the driver are to be found Acrobat reader and the Fine reader. This program needs one if text materials in-scanned will would like. The operating instructions are a quite large folding sheet, on which the installation and the handling of the scanner in different languages are described. The guidance is not particularly detailed, but it is sufficient, in order to make itself familiar with the equipment.

The appearance:
The Mustek scanner is very simple and simple from the optics. The housing and the cover have one completely easily in light-grey going colour. The form is naturally rectangular, as also with every other scanner. A switch to switch on or off has the scanner not.

The technical data:
Dissolution 600x1200 dpi with 36 bits depth of shade/USB connection/size approx.. 44 x 30 x 8.5 cm/weight approx.. 3 kg

The installation:
The scanner is connected by the USB cable with the PC. Power pack does not have the scanner, since it refers the river over the PC. With PC recognizes if the Win XP starts new hardware was immediately attached and after the CD with the drivers one inserted, the scanner is ready for use within fewer minutes. After equal installing the drivers then the enclosed programs can be installed also. Also these can be installed fast and without problems.

Scanning of pictures and photos:
Over to start one opens either a picture working on program for the Scanning, or opens the scanner interactive program, which calls itself panel. Before the Scanning is started, we can select whether we would like a color photo, a gray tone picture, black-and-white a photo or a text scanning. Under these points of selection also the possibility exists of clicking a field that "des scanned picture improve quality" calls. If one clicks on this field, we come into an overview, in that the brightness, the contrast, which dissolution and the type of picture can change. If one selected the kind of the picture, one can be able to be indicated a preview, before one scannt the picture finally. Before the preview is activated, appears a signature, which waits "for scanners" shows. This phase lasts approx.. 15 seconds. Providing the preview lasts with a photo in postcard format again approx.. 15 seconds. If the picture has the desired quality, one clicks now to "scanning" on and after approx.. 20 seconds is scanned the picture.
The quality is quite sufficient for my need. Those Colors are just as clear and intensive as in the original pictures. One I cannot recognize remarkable difference to the photo, if I beside the monitor keep it direct. Indicating the preview and scanning could go small little faster.
If one selects the Mustek program panel to scanning, one sees symbols, which a fax, a printer, a E-Mail symbol, ocr and a scanner to represent to lower photos. If one selects the Mailsymbol for example, at the end of the Scanning standard is opened the E-Mail program and the picture is inserted as plant into the Mail.

Scanning of texts:
If one einscannt over the scanner dialog field of texts, the procedure way and also the duration are exactly as with the a scanning of photos. The text succeeded exactly the same treated like a normal photo and the quality everything differently than. The letters are distorted and let sich with a quite small writing hardly still decipher. If one liked to represent a text invariably als to picture, one was to select the function color photo with the options also with text materials. The quality is better around a multiple. One further possibility is it to accomplish text recognition over the panel function ocr. The in-scanned text is to be represented then in the Word. Unfortunately if it functioned with me never, a text which I have further processed could, I never received.
If texts are to be further processed, it recommends to use oneself the program FineReader belonging to the scope of supply. If the German language is adjusted, a A4 becomes document in approx.. 20 seconds in-scanned. The words, those the program does not recognize in greener writing are represented. The text can be stored and worked over again afterwards as txt file. So sometimes most usual words are problem-free recognized and one can save a quantity of clerical work.

The volume:
I am positively surprised by the volume of the Mustek 1200 USB pluses. Since my old scanner gave noises like an old tractor of itself, I was with my first scanning with Mustek at the beginning of always in the faith that the equipment does not function, since I heard hardly noises. exact listening can one a completely quiet humming hear, which works however in no case disturbing.

Recommendable or not?
To the scanning of pictures the Mustek 1200 USB plus in any case is recommendable. The colors are the image definition come very intensively and also the original very near. The Mustek scanner has weaknesses with the speed. Of the more active preview up to the finished scanned picture well times 1 minute can offense. Also text recognition with the OCR function fails with me in principle. Only over the detour over the FineReader good results are to be obtained.

For the domestic purposes the Mustek 1200 USB is recommended plus surely. Over and again few pictures an in scanning always serves he the purpose, since the image quality is very good and it easily to install and serve is.

Of me gibt's for the speed and bad text recognition a star departure, since I am very content otherwise with the Mustek 1200 USB pluses.

Sorry for my mistakes, but I'm from Germany :-)
