My fitness pal was free to download, as its an app, you can have it on your iphone or ipod, or blackberry. You may be able to have it on other devices, but I'm only listing those I personally know of and have seen it on.

Unlike other apps, ie the weight watchers app, you do not need to be a member of anything or pay a subscription fee. There are no points, it is a simple as working out, with the use of the app, how many calories you should have a day to lose the weight you would like to lose, and then using the app to track your calories. Unlike other apps I have used, the varieties and amount of foods that are listed and included on the app is outstanding! Even particular restaurant meals can be found, ie nandos, harvester.

The app can be used even if your not dieting and just want to eat healthier, as it can tell you whether you have had the right amount of various nutrients, vitamins etc. Adding food takes seconds, and it is such an easy way to track your eating habits, and your weight progress!

The exercise calorie tracker is also very useful, with a vast range of categories available.

The only negative I would say is that, if you don't want to include your calories gained from exercise, there is no option to not have them calculated, so it will tell you you can eat more because you have exercised, whereas I would rather eat the right amount, and then have the exercise as a bonus in the hope to burn a few more pounds.

The app definitely makes you more aware of your eating, so if you have previously had any eating issues or disorders, be careful as the app could lead to obsessing or worrying too much.

All in all, for a free app, you can't really go wrong.

A good free app to help you with weight loss, and to track how many calories your exercise is burning.
