MySims

MySims is a new type of game in The Sims series that has been successful for many years. MySims is a lot different in many ways though. The Sims is a great game and so is MySims and I think MySims is aimed at the younger gamers. MySims is of course made from the same creators as The Sims which is EA. The game is also available for the Nintendo DS as well as the Wii. There is a similar game available for the PC and for mobile phones. The game is a simulation platform adventure game. I like the game because Its easy and really addictive. The story to the game is actually really good and for most of the game you do follow it. You create your own character at the beginning of the game. Whether you want to be male or female and you can decide what clothes your character wears and the design of their hair and everything. Even their voice. After that the game starts properly and you see your character meeting the Mayor Rosalyn P. Marshall your required to bring the town your in back to life. Everyone that was in the town has left and everyone who is left in the town is miserable. Your goal is to build new buildings and move Sims into them and make the town how it was many years ago. The Mayor starts you off furnishing the town hall to see if you can help and shortly after he asks you to help get the town back on track. Can you rebuild the town and make everyone happy?
GAMEPLAY
The Sims has always been about living an everyday life by building a home, getting a job and keeping your Sims happy. MySims is a little different because in The Sims you needed to use the toilet, take baths, eat food and other things to keep your Sims happy. Now you don't have to do all of that and your job is to rebuild the town. Also you don't need to sleep but you can if you want. The main aim of the game is to talk to Sims and get them to move into the town. If they say they will then you must create what they want. It could be numerous things like a library, club, restaurant, ice cream shop, clothes shop and many more. Some Sims will just want a normal house for living in. I think this is a fantastic thing to add in a Sims game and I also think it makes it more fun. After they've moved into their new home and you talk to them again they may ask you to create them some furniture or other bits. You can create items in your workshop which you receive at the start of the game. When creating a home or business you have to pick out of so many items on how it will look. Things like walls, roofs, windows, doors and even chimneys. The inside of the house is created automatically but you do create things to put in the houses.
The creating items part of the game is really annoying at times and can take several pieces or blocks to create something. It involves moving your Wii remote and sticking parts where they're highlighted. You don't have to create the items alone because it gives you an invisible version of how it should be and you can just copy that or add bits to it. Its really complicated to create items when there are a lot of bits to it.
I have recently created something that took 40 pieces and it took me ages especially with colouring it in. Throughout the game when your exploring you will come across numerous items known as Essences which are just items like apples, bricks and absolutely far too many to name. Collecting these is brilliant because you use them for creating your items. After the item is created you can paint it with these items you've collected. Sometimes people will request items that require you to paint half with flowers and half with chocolate. Doing this makes the other Sims like you more.

You can almost explore everywhere straight from the beginning of the game but there are certain parts that require tools for you to be able to explore. To get these tools you have to level up. Leveling up is simple because all you need to do is build the town and create items. Doing this increases your level. The Mayor will then give you a tool which will open up new areas in the game. Whilst this is a great idea it does become annoying with the leveling up. Also finding items is fairly hard at first and most of the decent items are found when you can get in other parts. Other places you can explore are places like caves, woods and even a desert. Some of these places are linked to the town so you can create places there too. You can do numerous things in town such as cut trees down and even go fishing. Fishing is really simple and also beneficial. You don't need money on the game which is an advantage because I always struggled at times on The Sims when buying so much for my house. You have to build your house as well but it doesn't really matter how because I don't think I ever entered it throughout the whole game.
I like this game. I would even go as far to say its not far off being better than The Sims. I have always loved any type of Sims game because they're so addictive and building stuff on games is actually really cool and popular. The game does have its downsides as do all games. The loading times on this are ridiculous but its probably because its a Wii game. Every single time you enter or leave a house the loading screen is atrocious and takes ages compared to most loading screens. I like the building options the game has to offer but I do think they get annoying as you get further and I was always rushing to try create something quickly. I like the way your Sim moves around the town. Hes really quick and the layout is also fairly good. There are only certain places you can create the buildings but you can notice them when playing. There are well over 200+ different Essences on the game which can all be used for different colours or patterns on the objects you create. Overall MySims is a great game, its very different to The Sims but offers a lot of new options. I had fun playing the game and would recommend it.
GRAPHICS & SOUND EFFECTS
I'm not a massive fan of the graphics for the game. They look a little childish at times but that's what a lot of Wii games are like because its aimed more at the younger gamers.
One thing I did love was the colouring in the game and I thought it suited it really well. I was a little disappointed with the look of the town and feel it could of been slightly better and a little bit bigger. The characters are okay but a lot of them look a little similar to each other. The sky, trees and other parts of the scenery was also okay but nothing special. Overall the graphics are just okay but it doesn't really effect how the game plays.
I was fairly impressed with the sound effects to the game even though the Sims still cant speak English. The music to the game does get a little annoying at times but its part of the game and it does grow on you. I like the way the sound comes into play as you pass things like a waterfall or fountain because you can hear the water falling etc. Its really good and did surprise me how interesting and good the sound effects are.
DIFFICULTY & LONGEVITY

The game isn't at all difficult. I completed the game and didn't struggle at all. Don't let the fact the game being easy put you off though. Designing the outside of the buildings is extremely easy and a lot easier than The Sims. Creating a Sim on this game is fairly simple but annoying. I clicked so many times on his clothes to change them and I kept missing the clothes I wanted. The hardest part of the game has to be creating the items or finding the rare Essences. Everything else in the game is simple and wouldn't cause any problems for anyone. The length of the game varies. It all depends on how quick you master everything about the game. Navigating the town and leveling up is the longest part to the game. Leveling up seems to take a long time but saying that so does the loading screens. Also sometimes you might need to go from the town center to the desert which can take a while due to loading screens. To fully fill your town and have it successfully completed your looking at around the 30+ hour mark which is actually really good. Another good thing is these type of games can be played again and different things happen. You can have different Sims move in and the game will pan out differently.
GOOD BITS
- Create your own town to look how you want it to look.
- There are hundreds of different Essences to collect on the game and use.
- There are so many options when creating buildings or items.
- No more eating, using the toilet or trying to survive because you cant die!
- The sound effects are really good and the game gets addictive!
BAD BITS
- The loading screens are ridiculous and annoying.
- You cant get married on the game or live with anyone.
- Creating the items gets really annoying sometimes especially with the different amount of options.
- No multiplayer options at all.
- The controls are really sensitive due to the Wii remote control and sensor.
FINAL THOUGHT
Its definitely worth mentioning that MySims is probably just short of being as good as the proper Sims games because they just offer a little more than what this does. Its still a fantastic game though and does offer a new dimension to a Sims game.
This is the first MySims game in the series and they is and will be more.
I would seriously recommend the game to almost everyone. Its fun and addictive and at times a little childish. Its also quite funny and a little geeky. Kids will adore this game because of its childishness and the fact it will be a lot of fun for them to play. Its colourful and entertaining so why not. The game has an age rating of 3+ and that says it all. Fun for the whole family its just a shame its only one player. The game manual is poor and probably the worst on a Wii game I have seen.
The price of the game is fantastic. I won my copy of the game on an eBay auction for £3.50 which included the postage. For most games that is a good price but for this its amazing. The game is going most places for under £5 and its totally worth every penny.
A game I would seriously recommend its a lot of fun and I would give the game a reasonable 7/10!
