By jove has it done the job, i now store all of my work files, music, videos and all sorts of other data. i carry it into work in the morning and plug it in, i then use it for the day and then unplug, carry it home again and plug it in. i have tried in either port USB or Firewire and they both work like a treat.

...SUMMARY
The Western Digital (WD) MyBookPremium 500GB is a small, well built external harddrive which is quiet in operation, with excellent capacity and choice of USB 2 or Firewire connectivity. As someone who is interested in technology, photography and video editing, I often end up running low on storage space on my PC. I had been looking to get another harddrive for some time and had seen the WD advertised in a magazine at a reasonable price. Once switched on, using a small button at the top of the device a drive letter appear, just like a normal harddrive, and you can use it just like an internal drive (c:).
It has a fan inside the case, which can be a bit noisy, but it only starts when your using it for fairly long periods (ie. Copying large files or many files, such as a 30gb of MP3 files, in my case). The drive spins down (shuts down) after about 10 minutes of not being used, which is nice.
It comes with two V-shaped feet, which can be attached to the bottom of the case. This is important to allow air to circulate and help keep it cool. I found it a little difficult to attached them to the case but once you work out how it works it becomes...
