was I immediately plug it in then back up the existing pre installed softwares from the drive, and then i re-formatted the drive using NTFS file system.
The main reason I did this is because, MyBook came with a factory default FAT32 file system. The downside of FAT32 is you cannot copy a file larger than 2 GB to this drive and that FAT32 is less-stable than NTFS.
Since this is a 1TB drive, re-formatting to NTFS will take forever, I took all night to format it.. So if you really know what you are doing you can format it yourself, if not, seek for a professional help.
ok so back to the performance, because the drive has only 1 port.. just the USB 2.0, the average transfer that this device can handle is about 1-3 Mb/s. Copying an HD movie ( 8 Gb of size) will take around 10-15 minutes...

I recently bought a Western Digital MyBookstudioeditionII2TB from Digital Fusion www.digital-fusion.co.uk for £193 - best purchase I've done in a while. The price was literally the lowest available online. You might find this hard drive cheaper on other web sites but once you go to checkout they you'll be amazed to see that some sites are charging £20 for a next delivery when Digital fusion is charging only £9. The hard drive arrived next day and it was really well packaged. I was a bit concerned about the packing because the hard drive is really sensitive piece of equipment. But luckely everything is fine and I'm copying all my important data to that HDD. It's quite big - 2TB so Im hoping its gonna last for at least a year or till the 4TB gets a bit cheaper :) ...

For me Western Digital hard drives are the best as they deliver great performance and storage at very reasonable prices. This is no exception.

Design
Its very small, and its a marvel that it can store so much in a limited space. Ahh, the beauty of technology. At 8cm in width, by 1.5 in height and 13 cm in depth, the studio fails to take up much space on your desk or on top of your pc tower. Its a miniscule 105 gs which means i can hold it in one palm quite easily. The stainless steel enclosure case is attractive and i hardly notice the sounds it makes when transferring files, thats how quiet this metal box is!
