    Advantages Advantages Tragically unfunny

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Unfunnilly tragic!

I think I began reading Russell Brand's ludicrously titled book My Booky Wook because I was repelled and rather un-amused by the antics of this somewhat androgynous self created character that kept appearing everywhere I looked on television. He seemed to embody all that was the very stuff of twenty first century celebrity to me. The image he appeared to be projecting was of a very self aware Tourette 's syndrome sufferer who had realised that the market value of his condition was bankable and decided to flaunt it. Even though my initial reaction to this freak with a hair style that would ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to read, brutally honest, you know the man himself has written it

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not sure

My Booky Wook is Russel Brand's autobiography. So who is Russel Brand? He is a comedian, tv and radio presenter and actor. He has won a number of rewards including Time Out's Comedian of the Year, Best Newcomer at the British Comedy Awards and Best TV Performer at the Press Guild Awards, Most Stylsih Man at GQ's Men of the Year Awards and the Sun's Shagger of the Year. Russel's book starts at his childhood and takes us on a journey of his life. When reading his book you can see why he as ended up as the wild man we know on the television. The irony though is that as wild as he may seem ... more

Advantages Advantages Great read, intellegently written, funny, emotional.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None!

. I absolutely loved My Booky Wook. It's packed with really funny anecdotes and is intelligently written. The narrative is such that it’s as if he were talking to you or telling his story to an audience which is great, especially if you’re a fan of his and enjoy his stand up performances. Russell invites us into his past to see the way that he grew up and his struggle for stardom, shown by experiences in his life that are both tragic and touching. I loved Russell's stand up comedy before reading this so I thought I'd enjoy it and I was certainly not disappointed. However, I think ... more

    Advantages Advantages very funny

Disadvantages Disadvantages uses some bad language

Russell Brand, the comedian-cum-tabloid personality, is a peculiar chap. A cult performer who is a celebrity, he is less known for his work than his lifestyle. Yet his work is his lifestyle. Or as he puts it: 'My life is just a series of embarrassing incidents strung together by telling people about those embarrassing incidents.' And Brand possesses an embarrassment of embarrassments. But what sets him apart from all comedians offering up their navel contents for public inspection is an exceptional combination of candour, ardour and humour. There is nothing he won't reveal in search of a laugh ... more

Advantages Advantages Written in the way he speaks makes this book enjoyable to read

Disadvantages Disadvantages The book sometimes delves a little too deep into the world of alcohol and drugs

I've always found Russell Brand funny and love watching his stuff on the tv but I wasn't planning on reading his autobiography. However, after my sister recommended it I thought I would give it a read. It's taken me a couple of months to read but I'm glad I did. It tells of Russell Brand's life up to the present including his troubling childhood and teenage life, up to his stay in a rehab facility for addiction. I thoroughly enjoyed the autobiography and even though at times it is touching Russell has managed to keep the reader drawn in. There are times when you will want to laugh and times ... more
