Manufacturer's product description

His phenomenal skill on the pitch and the controversy which has plagued him off it have made Ashley Cole one of the most talked-about players in recent years. Here, from inside the England dressing room, he tells the full story of their bid for World Cup glory in 2006.But this is alsomuch more than a World Cup diary. Cole talks openly about the 2005 'tapping up' scandal, when he was fined GBP100,000 by the FA following a meeting with Chelsea's Mourinho and Kenyon in a hotel room, and the media storm that followed. He reveals the ups and downs ofhis 2005 season at Arsenal, the last at Highbury before the move to a new stadium, and his struggles with injuries and form. And he also, of course, discusses his relationship with Girls Aloud's Cheryl Tweedy and the run-up to their wedding just after the World Cup.

Review of Fatherland - Robert Harris by HappyBunny

Advantages: Captivating; Believable; Terrifying
Disadvantages: None

...Imagine a world where Germany is the single most powerful nation. Imagine a United Sates run by Joseph Kennedy. Imagine a world where Adolf Hitler, the ‘Fuhrer’ of Germany, is approaching his 75th birthday….. Robert Harris’s ‘Fatherland’ is a ‘what if?’ scenario of what could have happened if Germany had won World War Two, and claimed occupation of eastern Europe to form the Reichland. My interest in reading the novel evolved from the screening of the film of the same name on TV, which like all good films, I had missed most of. Bugger! The concept of the film intrigued me, so after finding out that ‘Fatherland’ was a novel written by Robert Harris I got my own copy. Let me first point out that, despite my initial perceptions of the novel, ‘Fatherland’... Read review

Take a magical journey to the forests of Germany
Review of On the Night of the Seventh Moon - Victoria Holt by fuffy25

Advantages: Charming, exciting, mysterious, romantic, thrilling
Disadvantages: Not long enough!!!

...is in the clouds... It is due to being in Germany and her impulsive nature that she has an adventure in the German forest when she is 18. From then on, her life becomes one mystery after another. Helena is out on a school trip with Schwester Maria and other girls for the damenstift. She gets lost in the mist and is rescued by an handsome stranger on a white horse. She names him Siegfried. But is all as it seems...? It would be too easy to get carried away and tell you the whole story, but that would ruin it. There are so many plots within plots, sub plots and story lines that I can only think, the less I say the better. There are plots of murder, scandal, deciet, politics, love, honour...helena's intriguing story moves between Germany and oxford. between her being a pupil, working in the book shop and being a governess in a Schloss... Is it safe to go back into the water?
Review of The Swarm - Frank Schätzing by campbeltown

Advantages: Good initial 'up to the minute' plot
Disadvantages: Unnecessary length, silly plot

...thriller, part parable of global punishment for Man's neglectful stewardship of the Earth's environment, part Hitchcockian deep sea version of 'The Birds'. Just the ticket if you're looking for a monster/disaster-in-the-ocean novel (and with 1.5 million copies sold in Germany there's patently a massive market for this), or if you were unfortunate enough to be stuck for hours in some hellish airport departures lounge, but otherwise I'd leave well alone. Schätzing starts off well enough highlighting the looming threat posed by global warming, but veers off into a risible Eco-sadist 'revenge of the Earth' tale, in which an intelligent life form in the ocean - the 'Yrr' - takes control of all aquatic life in order to launch an attack on humanity and wipe out the homo-sapiens who are threatening the planet with extinction. Whales transformed... Read review
