Manufacturer's product description
As president her oversaw the end of the Cold War and helped liberate Kuwait from Saddam Hussein's forces. As the US Liaison to China he held tenure during communist rule under Mao and as Ambassador to the United Nations he forged relations around the world. From his days as a young Texas congressman to witnessing his son become the current president, George H W Bush has played a major role on the world stage for decades and continues to do so as an elder statesman. Now, using events from his life, the former president's daughter examines how her father confronted challenges, responded to crises and how he kept his humour and personality through it all. This extraordinary memoir will contain contributions from other members of the Bush family as well as from numerous luminaries and world leaders, inlcuding Bill Clinton, Colin Powell and Norman Schwarzkoft among others. It reveals his friendship with Bill Clinton as well as his family's opinions about the two of them.
Advantages: Thorough, informative and balanced Disadvantages: Drags in places
...In theory this review should be a long rambling affair what with the current situation and the fact people have a lot to say on the current US President, however, I'm still undecided on this particular book. After struggling through this over a five month period, I have finally finished it.
The author, Bill Minutaglio is a renowned journalist and is praised for this revealing biography of the Bush family dynasty; it has received numerous accolades for being immensely readable and balanced. There are no shock revelations or dirt digging to be found anywhere in this book and in truth this is the books downfall, GeorgeBush isn't after all a terribly interesting person, however he is the President of the United States and that fact alone should qualify the book to be a readable affair. I cannot quite put my finger on the reason I found...

Advantages: Compelling analysis of George W. Bush's public life as governor of Texas Disadvantages: Lacks primary-source citations for those who want to check the facts for themselves

Postscript

Once again, I repeat for the record that mypersonal political and philosophical differences with our sitting president are profound. That aside, all who are still reading this review know that we live in an age in which every aspect of a public official's past and present are fodder for the scandal mills. If the "evidence" provided by Ivins and Dubose is even remotely accurate, I wouldn't want to be in GeorgeW. Bush's shoes. In the past few years we have witnessed a dramatic escalation...

***Dubya, what Dubya ? ***
Dubya is GeorgeW. Bush, so nicknamed to distinguish him from his Dad, the former US PresidentGeorgeH. Bush, affectionously called Poppy throughout this book.
Dubya was elected US President in 2000 after the fiasco of the Florida recount. Not being a specialist and as it is not mentionned in the book, I won’t go through what I understand of the US political system. It is enough to say that any US Citizen who votes for its president, does not actually represent 1 vote, he/she will elect Grand Elector who in turn will cast a vote for the US President… This system is the heritage of a huge nation where most of its citizen could not really attend rally meeting and had to rely on other people.
However, it is widely accepted that were...
