As a huge fan of the Sims, when I saw this game advertised I knew I had to have it. My only dilemma was deciding which version, Nintendo Wii or DS? I was unsure how much they would differ, so I waited a few days and read some reviews. I finally decided on the DS game for two reasons: It was about £10 cheaper and the DS is actually mine, the Wii is my husbands console and this game really isn't his kind of thing! I did a bit of window shopping first but finally bought it from my local Woolworths for £26.99 as the prices were similar to internet sites but I didn't have to wait for delivery. If you are looking for this in any shop, you definately can't miss it, the picture is bright and vibrant, showing cartoon characters in a variety of outfits whose heads are bigger than their bodies, quite unlike the original Sims. Okay, on to the game....
When you first start your game, you get to choose the features of your Sim. These include the gender, skin colour, eye shape & eye colour, hair style, colour and choice of head wear, i.e. hats, wig, rugby head sheild. Clothes, choice of tops, jeans, skirts and a couple of types of dress . Once this has all been decided you are prompted to hurry to the ship which will take you to your new town (which you now get to name). Your first clue that all is not as it seems at your new home is when the captain calls you curious because you're moving there! What can he mean? However, all is about to be explained as on your way to find your new town you see a boy dressed as a teddy bear, when you give chase, he leads you to the Town Mayor, Helen who obviously forgot you were coming and is far too busy to show you around. Charming! However, poor Helen is obviously upset, she is worried about Tim (the teddy/boy) who has again disappeared. She thinks he may have gone to the raquetball court. To cut a long story short, your part in all of this is to find Tim and make him happy by talking to him. You are given a choice of three emoticons at a time and every time one is used, it is replaced by another. All in all there are five different emoticons, cry, shout, laugh, speak, listen, comfort and encourage. Tims happiness level is shown above his head, also the music varies according to his mood. Choose the right emoticons and you will have him happy in no time. He will now go back to his Gran, (Helen the Town Mayor) and this is where you (at last) get to reigister and name your sim. You also now get an explanation, the town is in desperate need of your help, at present it has a Police Officer and a Tailor. Not really thriving is it? Your task is to make the town appealing, bring in shopkeepers and tourists and restore the town and its surrounding areas to their former glory. You do this by planting flowers, talking to tourists, gaining the trust of the other townspeople, becoming good at an activity, purchasing from the shops and completing little tasks set as you go along. Luckily. it's not all work, if you successfully make a tourist happy, they will pay you for your efforts!
There isn't just the town to think of, the highlands, forest, port and your very own little area where your quaint cottage stands all need some TLC. If you do your job right and make the right people happy you may also discover new areas to explore. To start you will have to walk to these different areas, but it is hard to miss the old bus stop signs scattered around! In some areas you can unlock mini games. These are raquetball, lei making, paragliding and scuba diving. Some of these are free, others have different charges, but in all, you get to compete for bronze, silver and gold medals, plus you can make some serious money! There are other activities you can unlock like fishing, dowsing and the casino, which you can all earn money from.
The happier your town gets, the more tourist and shopkeepers will come. Thankfully it isn't hard to make money and you can buy many items from the different stores, items for your home, clothes, flowers, cakes to name but a few. The more you buy, the happier the shopkeeper and this means even more new items. Some of these items will make it easier to make the tourists happy, which is great, because this gets more and more difficult ! Other townspeople will need your help and you will be rewarded with items, such as cameras and sport equipment that will help you achieve your goals.
Your game play is set by five levels, shown by five stars at the top centre of the screen. The first couple of levels are fairly quick to get past, but the harder the level, the more you are expected to do. On the bottom left of the lower screen is a small square icon. Click it and the top viewing screen will show a map of the town, click it again and it will show what day it is and what part of the day. The day is split into four parts, morning, afternoon, evening and night. Night is an especially good time, as you can run around the town and look for 'sparkles' which are lost items lying on the ground, these can be anything from money to wall coverings for your home! Also, peoples moods can change depending on the time of day. In the bottom right corner is a collection of little circles. If you click on this it shows icons for the following:
Portable items - fishing rods, raquets, gifts etc Map Townspeople - Shows their faces accross top of screen and gives their name, occupation and brief description Non portable items - Wall & floor coverings, funiture, plants etc Medals - sport icons to the right, will show type of medals & high scores Fish - types & sizes of fish & information on them Camera - shows all pictures taken
I would describe this game as across between the Sims and Harvest Moon. There is a lot to do in this game, which you can carry on playing even when you complete the five levels. It is not difficult, everthing is well explained as you go along. Parts of it can be repetative, like talking to the tourists and I found myself running around and around the town, waiting for the next assignment. But then I am thirty two and this game is obviously aimed at a younger audience. There is a fair bit of direction to follow though, so children would need to be of a good reading age. I thought the graphics were nice and bright and very cute, I know the DS gets a lot of stick because the graphics aren't as good as the PSP, but it is more than adequate for this game. It makes good use of the stylus for the fishing game, but I found it easier to use the control pad for conversations and walking around. I did quite enjoy it, but it's definately not a patch on the Sims!
Advantages: good storyline, unique characters, enjoyable mini-games Disadvantages: can be slightly difficult at some points, not much to do after 5th star
This looked like a girly game to me, but it's good for boys too, so I bought it for my DS since I hadn't bought a game in months and wanted something new to play on. I had read the online description by Argos and it sounded quite appealing to me so I decided to treat myself.
***The Story***
You have moved to an island which has lost it's tourist popularity. The Mayor, Helen, asks for your help to restore the thriving business' and pick the island ... ...meet characters who will work on the island and also talk to tourists to keep them happy. The purpose is to make the tourists happy and this is how you will complete the game. Not only do you have to talk to the tourists in order to to this but you also have to make sports popular in an area, shops popular and make places look attractive.
***The Characters***
Like any other Sims game you're able to create your Sim to your liking. There are both ...

Advantages: Loads of fun, don't have to send your character to the toilet every 2 minutes Disadvantages: Not much to do after completing the game, lacks deep Sims-type gameplay
...the completely different look of MySims on the Nintendo DS.
Sooner or later, however, my Sims obsession ensured that I caved in and ordered this game from Amazon!
Gameplay
MySims is very easy to play, and could be compared to the Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon games. MySims focuses far more on the adventures of your individual character and the town he/she lives in, rather than the traditional Sims focus on building up a household or family. ... ...even similar gameplay, I would recommend this not to Sims fans in particular but more to those who like Animal Crossing type games / minigames. However if you have never played a game like that, or have kids between 8 and 13, I would recommend at least trying MySims out! ...

Advantages: Can buy alot more Disadvantages: Not useful when you have completed the game
This My Sims game is definately a totally different version of the usual Sims I am used to even though it is still made by EA. The main differences of this version of the game are the graphics and how you control the characters. In this game you are ONE person and go about your business. I guess when this game came out in 2007 they were re-thinking of the brand of the Sims and thought they needed a new way in order to attract more customers. In this ... ...to be more cartoon and 'cute' like. People are shorter and less human like. You start off in My Sims as a newcomer to the town and get to know the locals and solve some small mysteries in order to progress on in the game. You also like the old version Sims games, get to redecorate and customise your home. This allows you to feel like you have a whole new (albeit a small) life. In this game you must improve the town's reputation and contribute to ...

Sims 2 etc.. are deffinatly my fave ever games so naturally when the game came out i thought it would be great, know i am not too sure. see what you think..
At the beginning you design your character - gender, hair, skin, eyes, clothes - not a great selection but you collect more as you go along, hats, etc..
Then the real game begins,
you go on a boat and talk to the captain and he asks where you are a-going so you name your town.
On your way ... ...kind of mascot uniform (dogs head) then you follow him and he leads you to the town mayer, Helen - she is very busy and can't show you around
but she seems upset about Tim (Mascot dog head) who seems to have disapeared. she directs you to the racketball court were you have to cheer him up by choosing one of 3 emotions - when you pick one a new one pops up. alltogether there are 7 different emotions - speak, listen , cry, comfort, laugh, encourege ...

WoW what a laugh it has been playing My Sims for the last few days i thought i was going to be a flop like it has been on other NoN PC formates but i couldn't stop playing with the new features.
Its very easy to set up & get ready to explore all the new features as it is designed for 5 - young adults. You can even make your own patterns to make unique clothing and furniture items. You can even send your inspired creations to a friend using the Nintendo ... ...mini games like fishing, para gliding, and scuba diving to prospecting and racquetball. There are also many different areas like the mountain, forest, port, entertainment district, and more. Unlock more of the world as new characters visit and move in.

Advantages: Can customise quite alot Disadvantages: Nothing new - boring and confusing.
MySims Kingdom was released on the NintendoDS October 31st 2008. I love any Sims game since it had come out on the PC, So when I realised that a new Sims game was being released I had this for Christmas. When you first start playing the game you are set up with a name as you do in all the Sims game and then you are introduced to a few characters that will feature within the game. Once they have told you that the town that you will be staying in has lost all its flowers and things that make the town pretty, and because of this the town is unhappy. In all Sims fashion you, of course are the one to make the town and community happy again, and with that you are directed into the town where you have to walk around a few times to even guess what you are supposed to be doing. Once you understand what you are supposed to be doing by now, you ...
****MySims: Kingdom (DS)****
I really liked mysims when it came out so when this was published i had to buy it!!!
The main task in the game is to help king Roland (well the major Ellen ) fix the kingdom as some mysterious person is making things disappear and it is no longer the fab town that it once was.
You have to help the other sims and as you do they give you things to help you find out who is destroying the place and as the game progresses more areas and tasks open up.
Mini games
There are quite a lot of these in this game and they include playing tennis, fishing, selling fruit and catching ghosts. When you play them it starts off easy and as you complete the levels it gets harder.A lot of these test your reaction time which i think is good as you want to play again to beat your previous score.
One of the mini tasks is ...
Advantages: * Detailed visuals * Great character design * Rewarding gameplay Disadvantages: * Control and camera isses can be annoying * The same cutscenes get tiresome.
Unlike most The Sims games, MySims Kingdom has a story that puts everything together.
The kingdom used to be populated by wandoliers whose job was to help those in need but they all retired and no one bothered to hire any new ones to take the helm!
With the kingdom in trouble, King Roland decides to find a new wandolier and have them fix what has been going wrong.
Whilst the general story in MySims Kingdom is about gaining peace and happiness, each island has its own story!
You guide your custom created sim with the touch screen to navigate menus, move the camera, and build things. The controls are simple and work well though they can be annoying when building in tight spaces or when trying to place things on the screen.
The visuals in MySims Kingdom are brilliant; even the darkest areas manage to look good.
