Have you ever seen the Where's Wally series of kids books? The idea behind these books is that Wally is hidden on each page amongst a maze of drawings and you have to find him. Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir takes this concept to the next level; you search for objects on the screen and every level you complete gives you clues to allow you to solve a detective story.
The mysterious Phil T. Rich is missing, presumed dead and you need to interview the potential suspects in his disappearance and also find the heir to his vast fortune. Each time you meet a new suspect, you have to search their environment to find a number of hidden objects. The objects you search for are vast and varied and often hidden in ingenious locations. Did you spot the cat hiding in the oven, the postage stamp masquerading as a painting or the horse hidden on the ceiling?
The graphics in this game are truly amazing; the level of detail in each individual picture was breathtaking and without a doubt the best pictures I have seen in a DS game. Each of the characters inhabits their own environment giving a good range of scenes to search through. One of the detective tools you have at your disposal is a portable x-ray machine and this opens up a whole new set of graphics, for example x-raying the many animals in the game reveals their skeletons in fantastic detail. I was really bowled over by how good this aspect of the game was.
Game play is extremely simple, just scroll around the pictures and click on the objects you need to find using the stylus. The buttons and microphone are also used but even a complete technophobe like me could handle the controls. This simplicity has a certain appeal for someone who fancies a quick session of play but the fact that there is little skill involved in the game and that your actions do not influence the outcome means that it can become a bit dull. There are hidden levels and mini puzzles to solve which adds some interest but even those become a bit repetitive after a while.
I find it difficult to know who MillionHeir is truly aimed at. Some of the game play such as the jigsaw mini games seems to be aimed at kids but a lot of the objects to be found such as a sexton, the symbol for the planet Mars or an ankh will be beyond their understanding. Similarly, an adult may enjoy many aspects of the game but I felt like a fool when I was blowing the screen to fingerprint suspects or fitting together a 12 piece mini jigsaw.
I did complete the game and it probably took around five hours or so of tapping on the screen to solve the mystery. Instead of the elation I felt when I have completed other games I wasn't that impressed with the ending of MillionHeir and once you have finished it is unlikely you will want to replay. Obviously the game was interesting enough to draw me in and the click and find type puzzles are a good way to spend some relaxing gaming time without taxing the brain but the game was lacking a spark which would make it brilliant. The seek and solve aspect of the game was great but the detective story was dull and uninspiring, the mini games childish and the characters forgettable. Despite its many flaws this is still a fairly good title but certainly not in the same league as something like Professor Layton.
I had bought my wife that Professor Layton game for Christmas and found it to be most entertaining. Having finished this game my wife was looking for something along the same lines as Professor Layton and The Curious Village, and had seen advertisement for Million Heir and thought that is the one. She did not want to trade in the Professor game but I persuaded her since it was finished and she had just be repeating old puzzles. A trip to game got ... ...some games in and already put a tenner on a card for his mum to get new game. (What a kind son____.Daddy gets stuff all by the way). So she had forty quid on the card and the game had been advertised at Ł39.99. On the Monday she went in to get it but there were none in stock so it was Thursday before a copy could be bought.
I left her alone with her new game on Thursday night, and waited until Friday before passing comment. How is your new game ...

Mystery Case Files Millionheir was one of those games that I wanted to play from the moment I saw it in the shops. I’m not sure what it was about the game or more the TV advertisement that had me hooked but something certainly did, as when I knew I had a 26-hour coach journey ahead of me for me holiday I decided to purchase this game in an attempt to while away any boredom that may set in. Unfortunately however I found the game to be exceptionally ... ...playing the game than I was simply staring out of the window. I don’t know what I’d expected this game to be but what it turned out to be just did make me want to play it one little bit. I did however finish the game and although it only took me around 5 hours I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I had to be honest probably expected the game to be a lot more hands on than it actually tuned out to be, as the introduction to the game begins with explaining ...

** How to play **
If you have never played a hidden object game before, then you may be fooled by reading the above description that this game could be a point and click mystery, but it is in fact a jumble of items and objects placed together, over one another and distorted, hidden to make appear different. Your job is to seek the selected items out and remove them from your list.
When ... ...you along with the current suspect. A short conversation happens and then you are presented with a list of objects to find.
An example would be a garden scene, and there will be plenty of vegetables and garden tools included in this scene, some larger than life and some small. Your list of items will probably not include garden items or vegetables at all and you may be finding a mouse or a lampshade.
All the items are jumbled in together with basic ...

Advantages: Easy to play, children can easily get the hang of it. Disadvantages: Very reptitive with no obvious influence on the game story line.
have always enjoyed the Mystery Case Files games on PC as I felt they were always the best Hidden Object games and in the later ones the puzzles between levels were brain-stretching! I was really pleased to see this for the DS and had no hesitation in buying it for Ł22.49. How I wished I had read reviews about it first! The premise is that you are trying to solve a murder, like the other MCF games it isn't important to follow the story particularly ... ...hidden object part so was looking forward to starting the game. There are three "save game" slots so three people can be playing this game at their own speed. I found the graphics very disappointing, they were dark and some of the objects were tiny. I didn't mind this as much as I hated having to keep scrolling around the picture as it is too big for the screen so you can't see it all at once. To collect an item from the list given in each location ...
