Xboxlive is the name of the Microsofts online service for the Xbox360. This service gives you access to a vast array of content, some of it free, and some of it at a price.
There are 2 types of membership available, namely Gold and Silver. Silver is a free membership which is available to all Xbox owners. Silver allows you access to most promotional video and feature content via the 360 dashboard but does not allow you to play games online.
So what is so special then about Xboxlive? The Playstation Network is free, the Wii gives free access to its limited catalogue of online games and seeing as the Silver XboxLive is also free, why bother paying what seems like a high amount for the Gold membership. On purchasing an xbox360 console you are given a free months xboxlive gold membership which can be used once for each xboxlive account that is created. However this of course only lasts for a month and after that initial month I was hooked and since then have bought and year's membership and love to play online with my friends over xboxlive all the time!
What is Gold Membership?:
When you create an xboxlive account on your xbox360 there are several different things you have to do. You at first have to input your email address and password in order to verify the account. You then get to choose a gamertag to have - this is your special unique gaming name that you will be recognised as while playing on xboxlive - mine is magicman142.

Xbox360 is almost the best console in the whole world. I have this console my self so I can share my experience with you. This version of the Xbox360 (I'm talking about the Elite version) is the best Xbox360 version of all 3 Xbox360 versions. The elite version is better than premium or arcade, because Elite version has 120 GB hard drive (premium has 60 GB and arcade doesnt have a hard drive) with you can fill with films, music, game demo's, pictures and etc. Xbox360 is also good, because he has XboxLive, where you can play games online, download music, DVD films, themes for your Xbox. When you buy an Xbox360 (Elite version) you will get: the xbox360 himself, one Xbox360 game pad, a HD-AV cable, HDMI cable, the AC adapter, and the 120 GB hard drive.
